Now this is a dilemma that has been bouncing in my head for quite some time now. Decided to spill the beans before something goes Kerplunk in my RIG.

My current configuration -->

AMD Phenom IIx4 965-C3 3.4GHz @1.3 v [will be over-clocked ~4.0 -- 4.5GHz for benching purposes]

ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO

2 x 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 [RAID 0] --> will complement this with a 1TB internal drive for data redundancy OR a 1TB external

2GB x4 1333MHz RIPJAWS

MSi HD 5770 --> will be upgraded to HD 7850 2GB ~ September time-frame

LG OEM ODD

120mm x2 Cooler Master SickleFlow

Noctua NH-U12P SE2 [in push-pull mode]

All this is powered by a Real Power Pro 460W SMPS which is now 2 years old.

My queries are as follows --

1) will the SMPS suffice for future use, including over-clocking of CPU, maybe day-to-day over-clock will be ~3.6GHz?

2) the Cooler Master site says the peak output rating for this SMPS is ~550W --> http://www.coolermaster.in/product.php?product_id=5483, can this be trusted? [n00b question but still]

3) If this SMPS cannot soldier on for future purpose, will the Seasonic S12II 520W be a suitable replacement, keeping future needs in mind?

Thanks for going through my queries and answering them.

Also please give relevant links and quotes if possible to support your answer.

Thanks for the links Ras, have already tried out the eXtreme Outer Vision Power calculator -- http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine.

it told me I would need a minimum ~450W SMPS and optimally a ~510W SMPS. That is why the tread was spawned by me. Cheers!!

Also, please refrain from suggesting the Cooler Master eLite Power line-up to anybody. The Seasonic S12II 520W is a better investment.
