India will be one of the 13 countries to host the mega launch of the much-awaited Windows 10, the latest version of the popular operating system, by global giant Microsoft on July 29.
Microsoft is hosting events across 13 global cities, including New Delhi, to launch the latest edition of its operating system.

“We will celebrate the unprecedented role our biggest fans – more than 5 million Windows Insiders – played in the development of Windows 10 at special events in 13 cities around the world, including Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, New Delhi, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, Sao Paolo, and New York City,” Microsoft said in a blogpost.

These celebrations will offer hands-on opportunities, experiential demos, entertainment and opportunities to meet the Windows team, it added.

Microsoft will launch Windows 10, a successor to the current Windows 8.1 operating system, across 190 countries on July 29 as a free upgrade or with new PCs and tablets.

Windows 10 has innovations like Cortana, Microsoft Edge and the Xbox app. Microsoft claims the new OS is faster, more secure and compatible.

Microsoft is also partnering 10 global and 100 local non-profits to make a cash investment of $10 million in support of their missions and to promote awareness of their causes.

“In addition to the global non-profits, starting in September, we will crowd source nominations for 10 non-profits in each of the following 10 countries: Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, the UK and the US. The 100 local winners will each receive a cash investment to support their work to upgrade the world,” Microsoft said.

Any word on pricing (for new users) or is it going to be the usual $100 for home and $200 for pro ?
They should have localised prices for countries like ours, in the past fifteen years I've met only one guy with a genuine copy of Windows (excluding OEM ofc).
I'm ready to give money to MSFT, just not the 12k they'll be asking for.

12k seem reasonable if you consider they would be going Apple way for future updates, i.e. no extra charge on major OS updates. they should get rid of versions altogether. and just have silent updating.

Its only that kind of greediness that makes people go for OEM or pirated version of windows. People in india are mostly concerned with hardware and only seldom includes software in the cost.
12k is quite a high price for a OS even if microsoft makes the upgrades free for many years to come. I don't see many private individuals opting for that when they know that for 12k they can get a very decent i5 processor.
You see people here are still very budget conscious. Most of the people still run i3 and lower processor only because they can't offord an i5. As such its a bad move by microsoft if they want to lower piracy.
By this move they have only encouraged people to pirate instead of buying a genuine copy of windows.

Actually its ok for Microsoft to let people continuing pirating windows. If they were strict about anti-piracy they could even disable the machine when detecting pirated windows connecting to internet. But they do not implement this because many people who pirate windows cannot afford it and they would defenitely use Free Alternative if there is lockdown on pirated windows.

It is the people and businesses who can very well afford the OS and the individuals who are using computers for commercial purposes which hurt microsoft by piracy.

They've changed their attitude AFAIK, Windows 10 OS needs mandatory updates.

Point is that even if microsoft don't stop pirated editions now. It doesnt mean that it can't do that in the future.
Secondly, Piracy is still illegal whether microsoft supports it unofficially for its so called long term benefits or not.
You must understand that every company wants to squeeze every last bit of profit it can. And microsoft isn't different from that.

And if cyber laws would become strict in the future in india. Chances are that microsoft might even attack selectively. For now the only reason it doesnt act against private individuals is because the cyber laws are weak, its difficult to get anyone acquitted, and its not monetaraly feasible to sue every person using pirated windows.
They know that very well.

If anyone wants to think that they are not acting or taking action against the one who are using pirated windows just because they want to spread windows eco system while bearing looses. Then they are gravely mistaken. They don't act against any individual or small business because that won't be feasible for them at this moment.
