You can either install XP or Netbook | Ubuntu. For smaller screens, I think Ubuntu Netbook edition is more suited.

for drivers, Please list your Netbook model no with complete hardware configuration

Is this lighter on resources compared to Win7 starter..?
 
I am using Huwaei E1550 ( idea netsetter unlocked) to connect to internet , I don't think its driver would be available for linux... So can install Ubuntu as a secondary os only..

Btb any difference between netbook edition and remixed one??

How to know whether i can get drivers for windows XP and also ubuntu before installing it?

If this is a netbook from Dell/Asus/Samsung/Sony you can download the respective drivers from the company's product support page.

If it is from Dell you can enter service tag and download the drivers from the support page right away. Usually drivers are available for download only for XP & Windows 7.

Linux don't need any drivers. It can configure by itself or else you need to use Package Manager for direct D/L after installing ubuntu.

its sony vaio and only the windows 7 drivers r available in their website
