p.s i used vistabootpro for displaying option either to enter win 7 or xp

There is an issue with the boot loader.

If i am correct you are selecting Window XP from the boot menu which is under "Earlier version of windows" and then you are getting this error.

Check if your ntdetect.com is present. If its present check if boot.ini is pointing to the correct boot partition for XP. If both are correct it could be most likely that your ntdetect.com file is corrupt. In that case get a similar file from a XP system and copy it on your system by renaming the orginal file to something else. And then try booting in XP.

There is no use trying to edit boot.ini file. use easybcd latest beta version. its easy to use.

I am not sure about this non MS app or whether its recommended by MS either.

But you can give it a shot at your own risk as third party apps generally tend to crash windows easily.

Regarding editing boot.ini IMHO the system is reaching upto a point with help from BCD itself where its able to read the boot.ini and then gets the error after trying to boot to a partition pointed in Boot.in hence there aint any problem with BCD. But we cannot say its because of boot.ini unless we get some more information.

@hitler can you throw some light on the current status of the system ?
