Update to 8.1 is pretty seamless. All you have to do is open the Store and there will be a big tile. Click on that and it downloads, installs and prepares everything automatically till you log in and select your settings etc. 64-bit update is 3.6 GB, 32-bit is 2.7 GB.

Pretty much moved to Metro full time now, both on touch and mouse/keyboard. Of course, still using Desktop for certain heavy duty apps, but for general usage it is quite simply clunky and old-fashioned. Eagerly anticipating Office for Metro.

I heard few heavy games were running much smoother in Win 8.1 as compared to Win 7 or Win 8, is that right ???
Yep games like battlefield are running much smoother on windows 8 when compared to 7. Can't really say anything about 8.1 as i haven't tested any games yet, though new games will definitely run smoother on windows 8.1.

Wasted many hours of mine, installation failed, attempting to restore previous version windows..
Try disabling antivirus and see if that helps.

Don't have anti virus, could not reinstall for a while.

Apparently more than half the users around the world are facing this same issue, trying another install now..

Sent error again..

Funny. After download it took around 15 minutes for the install with couple of reboots in the middle. Didn't get any errors whatsoever.

Hmmm..m,ine updated on the 17th itself. Downloaded till 50% then went on to install without a glitch..Re-stared and asked for my preferences, and it was up and running.

Same here left at 20% download in morning and afternoon it was already installed , on customize Windows setting page . Didnt ask anything . I had upgraded from windows store upgrade . just clicked next and it was ready to use

After successfully installing 8.1, now my laptop ain't booting at all.

**** you Microsoft.
The problem must be with with the drivers or the hardware itself; MS might not have optimized the code for them. Which laptop do you have?
