Hi techies,

Need some help in getting my 40GB Seagate HDD to boot up.

Till date i've used this drive as a secondary drive ie., the operating system was lying in another HDD. Due to some requirement it was important that i load the OS from this drive, so i reformated the partition and using the XP bootable CD (SP2) i do the first part of the installation. The system then prompts for a restart after copying the setup files on to the selected partiiton and then i get the boot failure message.

Tried,
a) Repair option from the XP setup.... fixboot, fixmbr, bootcfg.... no success
b) Tried the Disk Wizard from seagate (which is a repackaged acronis tool).... there is a CLONE HDD option from where i tried to clone a working HDD on to this 40 GB HDD.... no success
c) Had a the old seagate disk manager tool. Tried the low level format and then when i try to do the actual partitioning and format, it says that it encountered a irreversible error with no further data
d) Used a Win98 boot disk, booted through it and tried the fdisk /mbr. Its says MBR not found.
e) Booted to WinXp using my spare working HDD and then connected this as a slave and completely repartitioned and formated the HDD. Then loaded WinXP to the new HDD.... same error after first restart

I am using a newly procured Winfast 6100 mobo for the socket 939 processor. Had a spare Athlon 3700+ for this mini project.

Is there anything i can do to solve this.

Well, i can only guess for this problem....

1. check whether in the BIOS , what are the boot priority ??

i think ,it might be 1.CD-ROM 2. none 3.none ....
