Time to get rid of the wires once and for all. My Logitech mouse died a sad death after 3 years and now my Samsung mouse is coughing up with the usual right click issues and pointer getting stuck at times because of bad cabling. So need recommendations on a basic wireless combination pack within 1.5k range. It should have good range and minimal lag from mouse during gaming sessions.

So what is my best option? How is the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 700?

Are you complaining because wires are creating a clutter on the desk? Get a keyboard that has a couple of USB ports (the Dell MM KB for instance) and plug the mouse to the port rather than running the entire cable through the back of the desk. Better still grab a couple of cable ties and neatly tie them up. Somehow, input devices with the AA batteries do not appeal to me. You've got to keep another pair ready when the ones inside run out of juice. I suppose you do not sit far from your display either.

Would've loved the ones a la the PS3 controller. Charge it using a usb cable and disconnect the cable when the internal battery is charged. :P

@ Desecrator - You could use rechargeable batteries then. Lol;-)

Just got my Logitech MK 260 yesterday. Its really amazing at the price. Got it for 1.1 K. I m comfortably using atleast 7M far from my tower. Me uses it when I am watching some HD movies and TV shows !!

^^

problem with any wireless device is there will be sizable lag no matter, how sizzling fast the connection is claimed to be by any company, the lag starts from the keyboard membrane < GHOSTING phenomenon >Mame Controls : Ewan Spence's All New Musings., then gets accentuated over the link over the Bluetooth connection and I've seen on Counter Strike it becomes almost like slows your reaction by about 1/2 a second enough to have yourself catch a well placed head shot so it is better if you stuck to wired devices if you want to game, otherwise Microsoft and Logitech have a few wireless kits in this segment but most people complain it doesn't even register typing at normal to high speeds

"DIED AFTER ONLY 3 MONTHS" on December 19, 2009 by JEFF_BIZ (1 review)

Pros: I USED THE MICROSOFT WIRELESS KEYBOARD AND MOUSE 700 TO MANAGE MY INTERNET USE FROM A COUCH SOME 10 FEET AWAY, LOOKING AT A 46" TV.

Cons: I TOO FOUND TYPING RESULTED IN MISSING LETTERS. BIGGER DEAL THOUGH IS THE MOUSE DIED AFTER 3 MONTHS. THE POINTER STILL SHOWED AND MOVED, HOWEVER NO ACTIONS RESULTED FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT HIGH CLICK BUTTONS.

Summary: WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

"Not worth the price or hassle" on December 19, 2009 by ntyatecafe (1 review)

Pros: The only good thing about these is that they are pretty easy to box back up to return to the store when you realize how utterly bad they are.

Cons: The keyboards do not register all keystrokes when typing at normal speed. Every sentance had at least one (in some cases several) missing keystrokes.

Summary: I'm IT for a large company that just purchased 12 of these for one of our depts. They hadn't been in use for but a day before I started getting calls on them. I tested one of them at my desk, away from the others so there was ... Expand full review

"Excellent kit for the price" on December 19, 2009 by supajohnny (1 review)

Pros: Easy to et up and start using; especially for beginners. It works from quite a distance from the base.

Cons: Batteries run out quikly

Summary: 1. Product 'does-what-it says-on-the-tin'

Down side is heavy use of 2 sets of batteries, one set on the mouse, and one set on the keyboard.

The battery hold up time drops rapidly after a few recharges

+1 +100 to what Desecrator has said :) hope this unedited patch of Goo is of help

The problem doesn't end there. You need to ensure you have a pair (2 in this case - one each for the kb and mouse!) recharged at all times for standby. And then the batteries lose their charge after frequent recharge cycles. It is a pain in the posterior.

I don't have any issue with the keyboard, it's working properly. My desktop trolley is a bit awkward when it comes to positioning the mouse wires. The wire is slightly obstructed by the overh-whelming size of my CM690. Hence the movement doesn't allow a fluid control. So unless I shift to a better furniture, this would be a pain in my rear end. I don't mind changing the battery, as I already have rechargeable batteries. My friend who uses his Logitech wireless desktop, says that the keyboard has a 6 month discharge cycle, so that's fine by me. The mouse, however, needs sufficient juice.

Pardon me, had a momentary lapse there. :P

Amidst the jargons, what I could grab from that post is that no matter what, I am bound to face some amount of lag. Now my question would be, how severe is the lag? I mean my typing shouldn't be affected. Moreover, I don't game that much using my mouse and keyboard these days, it's mostly dominated by the 360 controller. I just need fluid pointer movements, without any obstruction.

I was reading those reviews yesterday and decided to look at the Logitech options. The MK260 seems decent enough. But I need more opinions from people who already own (or have used) these wireless devices and their feedback would be appreciated.
Avinash, How do you find MK260 for normal use? The mouse specifically?

Hi,

You could see the wireless mouse and keyboard sets from Logitech/Microsoft if you are on a budget...else I would suggest get the Microsoft wireless keyboard and get a Roccat Pyra Wireless mouse.

I think there is some one is selling a brand new Pyra here on the forums...you might get a good deal outta it.

Batteries are not an issue with my keyboard Logitech MX3200. I change battery once an year. Though mouse eats up one set every month so I changed it to usb mouse.

I use rechargeable batteries in my logitech mouse. Got a combo but I don't use the KB...

My mouse batteries last about a month with extensive usage.

^^

My friend has this combo is practically impossible to type on them even at slow poke speeds like me :bleh:, mouse is Okay but jitters occasionally hopings this helps, battery life of Keyboard is good but mouse is like a bloodsucking malaria mosquito, it randomly dies on usage sometimes in 1 month sometimes as short as 3 weeks + the switch of switching on mouse is easy to mis on the base of the mouse :ashamed:

I don't think the Pyra is cheap or can be haggled for simply overshoots the intended budget of ~ 1.5K

Normal use is cool but preferably within distance of 7 Feet. But you do not have the lights indicating your NUM lock , Caps lock and scroll lock. It comes with Media keys. I find the keyboard lacks in the beginning when you start using after long time. I find the mouse good enough while gaming too. Far better than those ordinary wired keyboard and mouse. The mouse has 1000 DPI. So kinda good when sit close and game.

your rechargeable batteries last a month or a charge lasts a month and you charge again?

So I have decided to keep the keyboard and now go for a mouse only. How is the MX518 in terms of comfort?

^In my case it was roughly 6 months. If you haven't noticed yet, the newer generation of MX518 started retailing around 2008 for a lower price (around 1.3k INR) when the first generation was priced at >2k INR. The cost cuts came with a drop in the quality of the input device. Same is the case with the MS IE 3.0.

I have switched back to the DA and it is flawlessly working ever since. Steelseries Kinzu is another alternative.

Cheers Gannu. Hope it's worth all the hype. Then again, you guys have never been wrong in recommending me quality products out here. :D
