Guys my friend wants to have the bsnl rs 900 connection .. and we want to share it .. the distance between our house is around 500 metres "not more"
whats the most cheapest and efefctive way to do this wirelessly?
cant use wires as the cables and electricyty pls wud make it out then.
one more thing we both have old antennas ....
and if we do this by any case will we fall under any indian act i mean unlawful act?
what r the ap we need netgear or what costs in india or some links in newegg really appreciated.
i wanna know the whole topology .. as i'm new in wireless networking.
Joe.

A wireless network over 500m? Not possible with standard stuff. You would need some sort of repeaters etc. Even a wired connection would be difficult, as you would almost certainly have to buy repeaters etc. The only way you can get by is if you use fibre optics.

oh crap..........500 metres and not possible damn :(.
fiblre optics i have em but the media converters cost a whooping 8500 /- "correct me bout the price if i;m wrong"
so thers really no other way?
how bout using homes antenna its really big as directional antenna?
any way to boost the signal by using any crystal oscillator circuit?

Just get your own connection... one that's shared will be slow for both of you. Don't go wireless just for the sake of it... I use wireless so I can move around the house.

problem aint there.
problem is i'm from a joint family and disputed one .. due to court stuffs goin on the land phone is not in service.
i cant even take a land phone now as this house dnt belongs to my dad its a joint property ..
also i was planning to make it a wirelesshouse too..as its hzard to movearound "over 20 rooms" with mess of wires and laptops :P.
so thts y i cant take bsnl bb .. i have to share or just wait for airtel to start here.... :)

ah thts wht i was looking for wud give it a try ... one thing any law retrictions here involved?

Just make sure its not a open network... Read up one WEP and WPA encryption. If its not an open access point then no issues. Just give a couple of static ip's and no DHCP etc. Also configure the firewall at router/gateway properly.

By the way the record for longest range WiFi signal is 11 Mbps across 125 miles.

Check the antenna size ;)

hmm yea .. i need to study first will study for next 7 days and lets see if i can make out a better solution and will keep all you guys notified before i touch to do anything.
now time to get on reading stuffs on wireless :P.

I suggest when you create the network use proper authentication protocols like MSchap for password authentication i have small app with me will give it to you or will attach it herein some days.

Dude... your basic objective is to get internet access rite? So why don't you just get a 500 metre long telephone wire and connect it between your house and his and make a sort of parallel connection between your house and his... then get urself another adsl modem... and u can use his connection. Only problem though will be using the internet simultaneously... alternatively you could opt for a MU plan... so that both of you could log in at the same time.

how can i put wires .. the bsnl guys wont allow tht the cable peoples wud cut off the wire.
one more thing is it not possible to share through SU connection across multiple computers?, as the unlimited bsnl comes only in SU way."correct me if i'm wrong"

^^ If you are worried about all of that then you might as well not do it... coz anyway it's illegal.:P

^^You cant use parallel connections. The modem always has to come first.
What are you talkin about? Why cant there be a parallel connection from the main socket? One line can be split into 2(2 telephone lines joining together at the main socket in the wall)... so one would be in the owner's house and one would be in x86's.

i know but still its the File sharing network i'll say ahem :P and yea i wanna use MU in a SU liscence :P so its not possible if i share the telephone line but possible if i share the output bandwidth rt?

Ok c this is what I'm talkin about. There is a wall socket for a telephone rite? Now connect two telephone lines to that socket. The 1st line goes into ur frnd's modem and then into his pc. The second line comes out of his house and goes into a separate adsl modem you own and then into ur pc. The only problem is loggin in simultaneously not because of the SU and MU thing but because it is physically impossible. Otherwise no problem. Or ask him to get a another telephone connection... and extend that line into ur house.
