its good sign that people are speaking up.
Companies that promote those narcissist managers must be exposed. Sooner or later their lobbies will be crushed and hopefully the new generation doesnt have to go through these filthy toxic work environment.

My friend was fired from HCLTech for asking dinner break.
A few friends from same organisation has not received compensation revision for the last two years just because they're freshers.
Those who did get annual compensation got an annual hike of ₹24 p.a.
Such chut**pa happens and continue to happen in India only unless you are a bootlicking arse**le.

Good. About time we started standing up to our corporate overlords. Everyone has a breaking point, I know for a fact that I'm turning in my resignation letter the day they announce 5 days work from office.

Isn't this the new norm as wfh was strictly only for the covid period of 2-3 yrs..
You should reconsider your decision as there are very scarce openings in the market and everyone wants you to come down to the office or sites so its better to hand in the present job as long as one could.
I think Covid change the work dynamic. Some people take this as freedom to choose as per their will, some find their passion, some become social influencer, some find career in totally different line of work. My friend used to work in IT (hardware) side now he is selling vegetable (exotic/premiere) in their shop.
A job in hand is a must for someone who have family. At the same I definitely like to call out these companies/CEO wrong/orthodox practice of treating employees. We don't have much power here (in India) but without giving any backslash it will become norm.
I maybe sound like conspiracy buildup, but I think these statements are indirectly coming from Govt. side as well. Current govt. want to hide their own failure and divert.

The new norm is 2 days in office, which is already pretty annoying since none of my teammates work out of the office I go to (and the internet is slower than my home internet, but that's besides the point).
Also, literally 100% of my work can be done easily remotely. Imo this "work x days from office" requirement seems like nothing more than their ploy to control our lives. They miss the days when employees spent 50hrs a week working from office.
There are tons of businesses depending on common man's desperation during their long hours daily travel.

Capital will move to places where there are more profit and cheap labor.
India needs to upscale the technical expertise it can provide than compete with countries like Philippines for call center business, some of those might be ran by Indian corporations too.
India have a glut of engineers those are underutilized, what effort our business-politico nexus leaders are doing to utilize them than asking existing ones to slog in graveyard shifts ?

Its exactly the same for me but just for 10 people an org cannot bend its rules as eod they want to utilize their office property which is their own and not rented. Hence the hybrid model-2 or 3 days a week from office.
And yes there are many teams where physical collaboration is required due to the nature of their work/projects and every member is required in the office right from top management to a fresher!

I myself left my job of 14 years in August last year without any other job offers. Party because I could see my job field getting devoured by AI in the near future but mostly because of increasingly demanding and hostile work environment. 5-7 years ago, I had this wrong impression that as I keep climbing up the corporate ladder, the seniority would bring relaxed working hours and more delegation than actual labour. What actually happened was COVID ruined all work life balance, hardly got any raises and work kept increasing. The bosses expected me to work even harder and longer to justify the meagre raises they had to pay.
Luckily for me, I had been good at financial planning and have the means to survive without regular pay and left when my patience ran out. Been enjoying a sabbatical of sorts and working freelance whenever a opportunity presents itself since then. Not sure if a single continuous job is for me anymore.

That was Japan circa 1980. You worked for the company and the company looked after you. Family was second. Course this works when there is job security.
80s is when Japan was at its height economically. Then things stagnated in the 90s and there no longer was any job security and with that people were not ready to dedicate themselves to the company as before. Result is Japan never recovered its position from before. They suceeded in coasting and have been doing so ever since
