Fernando Alonso will drive for Ferrari in 2010 with Kimi Raikkonen leaving the team.

The two-time former World Champion has agreed a three-year deal with the Maranello marque.

He will partner Felipe Massa, currently recovering from serious injury. Giancarlo Fisichella, who recently signed for the team as a stand-in for Massa, will take the role of reserve driver.

That means Raikkonen, World Champion in 2007, is left looking for another team.

A statement on the team's website read: 'The Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro chooses for the second time in its history a Spanish driver. The first Spanish Scuderia driver can be found in the years 1956 and 1957 when Alfonso De Portago was called to race for the Prancing Horse together with Peter Collins and Jose Froilan Gonzales.

'Now it's the time of Fernando Alonso, born in Oviedo (Asturia) on 29 July 1981. After starting racing karts in Spain he became Minardi test driver. In the year 1999 he debuted in the Formula 3000 and two years later in the 2001 Australian Grand Prix in Formula 1, still with Minardi.'

Team principal Stefano Domenicali said: "We are very proud to welcome to our team another winning driver, who has demonstrated his amazing talent by winning two world championships in his career to date.

"Of course, we wish to thank Kimi for everything he has done during his time with Ferrari: in his first year with us, he managed to win the drivers' title, thus making his contribution to Ferrari's history and he played a vital role in our taking of the constructors' title in 2007 and 2008.

"Even during a difficult season like this one, he has demonstrated his great talent, with several good results, including a great win in Spa and we are sure that we can share more good times together in the final three races of this season."

Fisi was just filling in for massa and wanted to become a test driver for ferrari which is what he will be doing next year.

So the dream team of Fernando and Kimi didn't come true.

Well it is all about connections in F1 and Kimi didn't have the right ones at Ferrari and Flavio was not liked by Max so Max used Nelson as a pawn.

Kimi now wants to work with a team that will put up a fight for the championship and not just another team on the grid or he might switch to rallying or he might give up racing altogether. I like the way he thinks, he doesn't want to fade away like Jacques but then will he get a drive for next season?

Toyota is interested in both Kimi and Kubica. Toyota has not declared their budget for next year yet but it is one of those teams with deep pockets and Kimi and Kubica are the drivers who can take them to the top provided they get the right car. Their current drivers are good as well I think the car is the culprit here.

Finally, Alonso deserved a chance in Ferrari. He is the best driver out there and Massa welcome back, back to hell because Fernando is the numero uno henceforth. Massa has the connections to retain his position in Ferrari, I just hope he has connections to switch to other teams as well. Because, Alonso is a real fighter and he fights in every race he races.

I think Ferrari made a wise decision remember Alonso had a fight regarding no.1 position in McLaren. Kimi doesn't like to play second fiddle to anyone and this could lead to friction. Hence,

Congratulations Ferrari on:
Alonso -> The New Schumi
Massa -> The New Rubino
Fisichella -> The New Luca
