you are most likely seeing ddr2 which is much much cheaper than ddr1. according to current price: (cheapest) DDR2<DDR3<DDR1<SD (costly)
in fact new 1gb ddr2 stick costs only 800 so 700 for a USED ddr2 stick is actually very expensive.
