Hi fellas...

Ever since my old Dremel got lost while shifting homes.... modding just hasn't been the same. I was trying to get a colleauge in the states to bring one down for me... but his return has gotten delayed.

I was wondering if anybody could manage to get one down for me, or maybe sell me a new piece, or maybe point out to a refferal here in India.

This is what I'm looking for

Dremel 3956-02 Variable Speed MultiPro Super Kit With 77-Piece Accessory Kit

plus a few accessories.... which ofcourse I can mention later on, if anybody can manage to help out.

Thanks very much in advance.

its difficult to get an original dremel here ... there are indian makes available for around 2 - 2.5 k ... you will have to enquire with hardware shops in your city to find one ...

You can get everything over here. There's a place in Dadar, where hardware are sold and there's one shop who spealizes only in power tools. Gimme a day or two, I can post exact address.

i had seen a dremel in Heera Panna. I bought for myself a taiwanese make, but it had higher RPM and wattage, and all bits. this was half the price of the dremel.

this is a hardware shop inside heera panna. maybe you could check it out.

since ur dremel is lost u can also look at other brands like
A. Proxxon which seems to be of higher quality tool than Dremel. PROXXON I'm sure it's expensive.
B. Foredom
C. Pfingst [A Foredom Competitor]

and do not go for chinese or taiwan based tools they dont last long
and if u r a heavy user drop the idea of buying those !!!!!!!!

The Heera Panna shop =

Zulfikar Electricals
Shop No 16
Heera Panna

Phone (seems like I have an old number) 4949485

They sell original Dremels for around 9 - 10k. Dunno the model as I last I went there a few years back.

But you can also buy Dremels at a lower price at Lohar Chawl - tho these look reconditioned.

they do last, mine has lasted all of 4 years. i bought it four years back when i was in mumbai and i built my first see thru case out of acylic bought from null baazar. but most modders dont qualify as heavy users.

by the way even bosch has a "rotary tool" that is like a dremel and must be good.

@eazy

yes zulfikar was the shop and they had nice cool stuff at the time.

There is one from Black and Decker too which people speak well of...

Black & Decker Power Tools

Are you guys going to use the Dremel for fan holes on cases or for cutting patterns on Acrylic ? If you are cutting fan holes I hear it is really slow work .... I use a Jigsaw for my fan holes and that is pretty fast if you use high quality blades. I have cut holes for 120mm fans in under 10 minutes with BOSCH blades. BUT what is the BEST for cutting fan holes is a HOLE SAW - the downside to Hole Saws is that you have to buy seperate blades for different size holes and these can be expensive. I have a Hole saw but it is for 60mm diameter. :(

right hole saws are the best, but most hole saws we get are wood iones. which means one use on your cabby and they are gone.but you could do a pattern like

to get a bigger hole.

(did anybody understand my ascii art??)

and then use a small hacksaw, followed by a file.

OT: ill post a picture of my see through acrylic case just for kicks.

Yup I think you are right MOST hole saws available locally are for wood .... but I have seen metal cutting hole saws at Lohar Chawl ..... here is a pic of my computer table where I made two holes with a hole saw made for wood...

Here is what a metal cutting hole saw looks like....

Thanks for all the info guys...

Regarding the metal cutting holesaw, I had gotten mine during my last trip to the states. One of my friends was telling me that it was available somewhere here in Bangalore. You get even Carbide tipped and Titanium tipped ones for heavy use. I'll find out and post the details for you.

Personally, I prefer using a holesaw for 80mm and 120mm holes in both acrylic sheets and metal sheets. Using rotary tools for that takes way too much of time.

yes make many hole nxt to each other in a circular way
and then use a small hacksaw, followed by a file to smooth the circle
another way is to cut a electric wire and stick it on the just cutted hole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
