Its quite strange that Opteron 165 is not widely available in India as compared to international markets. It is available only through AMD Authorized dealers and that too at a very high price of 9.5k plus.

Official price of this CPU is $149 and in rupee terms it comes about 6.5k. Even if we add duties and dealer margin, price still falls way below 9.5k.

Indian customers always get secondary treatment from AMD or Intel. We pay hefty premium on account of 'NEW' cpu and when it is hard to find we are again forced to pay premium on account of 'scarce availability'. Though its a fact that India is a BIG market for both Intel and AMD.

So all those friends looking for Opteron 165 or 3800 x2 (939 socket) should reconsider the idea of buying this cpu at 9.5k or even at 8k for a used one. At this price, system upgradation option to either AM2 or C2d looks viable.

dude now am2 prices are lower so i guess its better u add some more buks and go for complete change 5k u will definately not get an opty 165.......or else get 3800+ 939 for some high premium rather than paying 9k ard get it below 7k frm him

You are right dude. It dosen't make sense to pay hefty premium for opty 165, as at opty's price one can upgrade to am2 or add few more bucks and get e4300 c2d after april 22 as your old cofig will also fetch some bucks.

^^ I dont know what price is being quoted to you but in my opinion if its less than 8k you should pick up this processor.

Oh and i've assumed that you're gonna overclock it coz if you arent then there's not much point getting this, go the c2d or am2 way instead depending on budget.

Its an amazing processor otherwise and i've been running mine at 2.52 Ghz from day 1 at stock voltages and on stock cooling and its totally stable. Definitely a big increase in gaming and even in day to day tasks over my 3200+ it replaced so basically i'll hold on to my s939 setup now for some more time.

Vivek is asking 8k for Opty 165 which is very high as after 9th april, price of this CPU has decreased.

Khimera where it is available below 8k.....?:(

get a 3800+ frm him if its available...payin above 7k now for any old 939 processer doesnt make sense acc to me.....even i guess the 3800+ price shd b reduced drastically

or set a budget of 17-18k if possible and get the am2 setup...btw for what purpose u need the stuff???encoding???

x2 3800 @ 6k.
Only opty 170 available now. 165 on hold for Khimera

Edit: I do have one more Opty 165 and one Opty 170 available......made a mistake earlier
Vivek

I need the stuff to play good games, as my present config of athlon 300+ on msi neo 4 platinum and 1gb ram (transcend) is very slow for todays high end games.

I am particularly looking for opty 165 as it can be easily overclocked and its price has been reduced by AMD. But, due to scarce availability in India, amd dealers are charging high premium for opty 165.
