Weird, I've never experienced this issue with Netgear wgr614 or Linksys wrt54g... can't imagine how they'd get heated up so much that they stop functioning.

I am using both Netgear and Linksys. I say Netgear is far better in terms of use and performance in field of area coverage. Linksys is better in advanced configuration such as port forwarding, firewall etc and third party firmware support and linux cuztomization.

The model no are Linksys WT45G which sells for 2900. The WT45GS is suppose to increases ur tansmission speed, but then sells for 4500. The Netgear WGT624 sells for 4100. Netgear looks extremly stylish as well and has 50% more coverage than the Linksys.

I am willing to sell my Netgear for around 2500, as Exacct internet connection doesnt allows the use of Netgear Routers as it can override the speed limitations. I had to switch to Linksys recently.

I got my house Wi-Fi in Jan 2006 and it simply rawks. I can roam around with my Lappy anywhere. My frds come over to my house to compete in PSP games. Should also help me in future for X360. For now, my XBOX is connected with the CAT5 wire to the Linksys router. My "Entertainment Server" aka desktop PC is also on WiFi and host an FTP server for the XBMC. Now, I watch DivX/Xvid on my XBOX/29" Sony TV. I have connected my XBOX to my Pioneer VS1000 DVD Home Theater System. So, now I play my MP3 playlist stored on my PC on my HTS system.

PC + Game Console + TV + THS + Wi-Fi Network = Ultimate Entertainment

yes i have read reviews in many forum sites that dlink is not the top of the line in performance ...but last i saw @ newegg the 524 model was for $14 !!!:D (after rebates) ...now it is $19:(
This is great VFM ...plus i already have a dlink wi-fi card ....so i thought they might work well togther.

anyways i will try to look for a different brand , smc, linksys etc ...in the 1.5K range here locally ....

No point going for a WRT54GS. To reap the benefits that it offers, you'll also need a WPC54GS card for your laptop, which would be pointless since your laptop will have an in-built wifi adapter. Stick with the WRT54G/GL. They're both customizable using third-party firmwares which add a lot of advanced features. You may not necessarily use them all, but it's nice to know you have them if you need them!
