Which would be better value for money of the two. The X1800XT seems to be ahead of the 7900GT in most of the benchmarks. can any one give me the rough current prices of the cards for the popular brands available in India.

yep but that's because of the memory. The 7900GT also OC'es quite well and at a clock of 500 MHz will pwn an X1800. remember its 24 pp vs 16 pipes.

sorry didn't clarify memory as in 512 MB vs 256 MB. IMO the 7900GT is a much better card....

i dont think u get that card here.

are u interested in a evga 7800gtx ko ac3? will give u same performance if not better than a 7900gt & has a much better heatsink etc.

and doesnt die like 7900gts

Arent you tired of HDR+AA thingy from every Ati d00d you meet ? OMGH0DTEHOWNZ00RRULL3RZZZ.....

Btw most of the 7900GT's have been replaced and they dont die anymore, well not as much as they did sometime back and they can also be OC'ed to great clocks without any problems....

akS !

Let me know the price...:) I am looking for a temp card to last me till DX10 cards come into the market. so I want something which is either not too costly or has good resale value.

I dont think that implies to Gfx cards :p...

yep, I know beter that than anyone else..:)

Got a Asus v3400 TVR (Riva TNT with 16MB VRAM) for 10k, now its not worth 500 bucks. ATi Radeon 8500 with 64MB RAM for 18k and its not worth 1k now. XFX 6800GT for 24.5k and its not worth half the price now. :(

Thats why I want want to sell off my 6800GT before it becomes a museum piece like the others... :)

sez who mayte....??? those issues have been sorted out months back... things are slow down there I guess :p

Those are great cards (7900GT's) man they run cool, and such small heat sinks awesome....

17.5 K or so xfx 7900GT has good VFM. If u see a good deal with the gigabyte 7900GT (zalman cooler) like under 20K, grab it. Great VFM IMO

The problem is getting x1800xt locally at decent price.

Its simply not available.

If you had some sources from abroad i would have told ya to get x1800xt eyes closed.

16 pipes or 24 pipes does not mean jack. Even x1900xt has 16 pipelines.

If you are buying locally then 7900GT is a good choice.

If you are 100% gona upgrade in less than 6 months then better buy 7600GT insted.

In reference to the above replies, while FanATics do make HDR+AA to be the end of the world, lets not forget that the X1800XT doesn't have the shader power of the R580 aka X1900 so it is technically inferior to the G71 with 24 shaders and 24 pipelines. And having owned a X1800XT and then switched to the 7900GT(albeit an overclocked one at 550/1500) I can say for sure that the 7900GT is better, the new RoHS compliant SKUs have resolved the artifacting issue that unfortunately plagued a lot of the early 7900GTs.

And why don't you get a 7950gt btw?

So if u want absolute performance then get a X1900XT if u want something fast enough for almost anything with drastically lower power draw and heat get a 7950GT or 7900GT(the only advantage the 7950 has is the larger frame buffer and HDCP support, the former only becoming important if you go over SXGA with heavy AA+AF ;atleast for the time-being),a good 7900GT will overclock to the same levels as a 7950GT.

1800XT:
Smoother for most of the games
Better IQ
HDR + AA
Maybe faster for most games at stock
Doesn't die

7900GT:
Much better overclocker
Beats the 1800XT once overclocked

7800GTX:
None

1800XT should be available around 22-23k.

Vandal baby, this is for you.

and regarding the issue resolved, only evga came out with a different version which supposedly does not die.... for not alteast :p

A 7600GT would again be almost same level as my 6800 GT. So no point in going for that. Also I will be waiting for DX10 cards from both ATi and nVidia to come into the market, the price to stabilize a bit and then get the best card that comes under 30k. So I want what ever I buy now to last me till that time. I think it will take 6-8 months.

The 7950GT is not in the indian market yet and might take some time too. Also I think it will be priced more than 20k because of the 512MB frame buffer. The max budget I was willing for is 20k (for the 1800XT), otherwise its 16-18k for the 7900GT. so the 1900XT or even the X1800XT is out of picture for me.

So it seems that a 7900GT is a better vfm than X1800XT or 7800 GTX from the reviews too. I will stick to 7900GT (Or 7950GT if I can get one under 20k that is).

Tired?, dOOd, HDR+AA makes a BIG difference, Its a very short statement to say that "ATI X1xxx supports HDR+AA", but it does make a HUGE difference in games.

Get the X1800XT, it's a very good GPU, not only it supports HDR+AA, but it also support AVIVO, which makes DVD playback look amazing. And there's overclocking headroom on X1800XT's too.
