Graphic Cards X1900XT + P5B Dlx Compatibility Issues

Switch

Guide
I have an ASUS A8N SLi Dlx board and an Sapphire X1900XT with a X2 3800. The problem is that when i try to boot my comp with Gfx plugged in the Master PCIe slot and board running in PCIe 16x mode(Non SLi mode/full 16x) the PC doesnt boot at all. Upon making the card switch(The SLi Card to to dual PCIe/SLI/8x mode) the comp boots up. I have tried using a X300 on the while running the Primary PCIe slot in 16x mode and it works great. Infact i had used a X850XT PE on the same slot and it was workig without any problems at 16x mode. Just the X1900XT dosent boot up with card running at 16X. As soon as i switch the SLi card on the board to dual mode/8x each PCIe slot the setup works.

I had tried searching for this issue over google and found nothing. Help me out here guys. The problem exists from the very first day since i tried my X1900XT on my Sli Dlx...

TIA

Now i bought a C2D setup and the same problem is there... But this time there is no way to make the thing work at 8x so the card is not at all working. The board is not even posting when X1900XT is installed in the machine. The same card works fine over a ASUS A8N Sli dlx borad @ 8x. This is so weired. The board is recognizeing the X300 and right now i am using that but is not recognizing the X1900XT. The bios on the mobo is 0614 and everything else working just fine. What to do...

try a different bios and check re

oh and if u can, measure the volts with a dmm when the x1900xt is installed

Will try the DMM but i dont think thats the issue...

Can it be that i need a nw bios for the card itself... But then again... There should be something over the net for the same...

jaber had the same prob with sapphire x1900xt on his evga sli nf4 board.

i never had such a problem though with asus x1900xt on the evga nf4 sli board.

check evga forums. maybe its the same issue.

yes the hardware is the same. the brands are diff. mostly i guess the video card update might fix it but not 100% sure.

me on asus x1900xt on evga nf4 sli (working fine in 16x slot)

jaber on sapphire x1900xt on evga nf4 sli (having prob at 16x slot but works fine on 8x slot & same performance)

switch on saphhire x1900xt on asus nf4 sli (same prob as jaffer had)

but switch's prob seems diff. jabers card as i remember he told me it used to boot even on 16x slot but it used to cause random hangs. switchs card doesnt seem to boot on nf4 or the new p5b @ 16x. jaber n switch bought the sapphire cards together i think with the rest of the guys on te so i guess their bios version etc will be the same.

abeeeeeeeeee come on MSN:@

I might have solution for this. Plenty of people running x1900s with p5b and a8n. the issue seems to be on card itself. I might have explanation but only interactive talk will do :P

Well if the vcard bios flash does the trick i'll be very grateful coz ive been forced to run on x8 pcie width for months now:(

Surprisingly the only performance difference i see is in CS where my max fps gets limited to 75

Also another thing that struck me is that the ASUS gamebox that was on display in my college had everything thing else top of the line with their SLI Dlx except the gcard which was a X1800 and not X1900......Coincidence:huh:

Maybe they had the same prob too?

Switch pls post here when u find a solution

Update: The bios flash has not solved the problem. Anybody else with a sugesstion.

Funky pass the bios that you are currently using. Maybe that will help.
