I have many video files which are x264. I cannot play them on Philips 5106K.
Which software can i use to convert them into divx or xvid so that they play on Philips 5106K.
I dont want to lose the quality, I dont mind if the output file is much bigger in size. Important things for me is that they should paly on the DVD player.

If you're patient enough and willing to go thro' multiple processess then there is nothing like Gordian Knot. It lets you customize everything and the final picture is very good if you set everything right.

thanks..I Never knew we could use Gordian knot for x264 to xvid. Do you know what settings I have to keep so that the output has good quality. I used it once for some other conversion and the output was total disaster..

Well if The Knot bogs you down, you can have a look at a very simple and easy utility called SUPER.

The thing to keep in mind is that you should have same bitrate (audio and video).
So if you x264 is in 600kbps Video + 128kps audio
You need to encode to xvid using the same bitrates. No point wasting by going higher bit rate.
Lowering teh bit rate will lower the quality too.

Here is is SUPER: SUPER © .

I tried to open the file in Gordian Knot but it doesnt not recognise the file. The extension of the File is mp4.

Also.. i cannot open the file in GSpot.

^^ gspot doesnt support mp4 files. use super like slayer pointed out. you just have to select a few settings, and its pretty easy. after a few tries, you can try gordian knot too. i just started using it myself, and the flexibility it has is amazing!!
