^^ that cannot be the actual price as it hasn't been released it.. as per the news it will be cuming after july and i don't think it will be cheap.

Why would one need this when one can just very easily soft mod their older 360's with the help of the extracted keys? And one might have needed this for the newer slims but its not supported as of now.

Modding the recent Lite-On's isn't easy, without a fair bit of soldering skills, you wouldn't be able to extract it's keys. This is just a direct connection to the SATA bus and doesn't need the console to be modded. Last but not the least, NTFS USB game loading support. Now if the device is priced appropriately, I can see this being quite useful. Although, JTAG still retains it's crown for the best hack. :P

As far as i know it would be able to handle the new dashboard which flashes dvd firmware to stock firmware , which is a great thing

Now with the latest probe 3 you no more need to do soldering on the liteon 83850c v2 & 93450c... I see X360key very useful as u will have no need to open up ur console and boot games directly from an ext ntfs hdd, jtag was a fantastic hack but it lacked xbox live as it is totally detectable, but wid x360key we will also be able to go on live and no drive softmod required as you can directly update the x360key by connecting it to ur pc.

The PS3 CFW's were also undetectable for some time but after the OFW was updated, it was, so i think its just a matter of time before MS might fix this. But i can be wrong.

How will you connect the device to the SATA bus of your 360 without opening the console? :S

^^ Ethan Bro... Baal ki haal mat nikalo..... Though U do have a valid point. :)

I am very happy as I was recently looking for modding my xbox 360 Elite which has a LiteOn 7 series drive.
But due to office work I had to travel and could not get it modded. I think if some good reviews follow in the next few days... I will surely go for this one....
I will be optimistic and start downloading images of games :D

Why not keep the device looks simple to keep the cost down. All that "taam-Jhaam" is not needed....
Anyways.. waiting to get my hands on it... please post if anyone gets it or reads any reviews on this one...

Thanks @dragon_Unleashed. repped you.....

Console had to be opened atleast once to fit the device side to 360 motherboard

That's my point. It needs to be opened once for the connection to be established. This is very similar to installing a CK3 Blaster Kit, which will eliminate the need to open your console each time you want to flash your DVD drive. :)

As per the news the device will be plugged in to one of your usb ports of ur console... And regarding the Sata bus thingy yes i think we will have to open the console atleast once as ehtan_hunt said above and we will actually have to installed the device with xbox mobo via sata port on it and the external x360key device will be plugged onto one of the usb ports we have on our xbox 360's.

Check out this working prototype video of x360key guys, this should give u an idea regarding my comment...

YouTube - x360key prototype running AP25 protected game, XBox Dashboard version 2.0.12625

And according to what i see in the video, I think the device will be expensive....

Guys wait for it, after this releases, other people will copy and make this at a cheaper price point. Dont jump the gun ;)

Yeah just like the first PS3 dongles. IIRC, weren't the first ones prices at > 100$ ?

An interview with the developer of X360Key

What products have the xKey Team developed in the past?

XKey, Wode, Wiikey, Drivekey, d2pro, xenoGC, Qoob, Crystal Chip, Aladdin XT/XenoFX series mod chips for Xbox 1.

How long has xKey been in development now?

Approximately 6 months.

Will xKey work with all Xbox 360 consoles, including Slim?

Yes and as new drive versions appear we will add support for them too.

How do you install xKey, is it easy?

Very easy, it's Plug 'n' Play, if you can dump the firmware from your drive then you can install the Xkey.

Both PS3 and Wii software backup loaders have compatibility problems with some game titles when loading from hard drive, due to firmware version requirements or protection in general, how is xKey in that regard?

This is where drive emulations really come into their own, because the console sees a real drive with a real disk inserted there is no need for any patching or hacking. Everything 'just works' as normal.

In relation to xKey; what exactly is the Xbox 360 DVD drive needed for?

The Xkey offers two modes, emulation & passthru. In emulation mode the drive is not required at all, in passthru mode the drive works as normal.

Does the Xbox 360 DVD drive need any custom firmware flashed to work with Xkey?

No, quite the opposite in fact. You need a dump of the original drive firmware to configure Xkey. The good news is that's all you need to configure Xkey.

How safe is xKey on Xbox Live compared to iXtreme?

While we take every care to accurately emulate the XBox's drive we do not recommend using Xkey with XBL at launch. Shortly after launch we will release updates that address this.

Also, plenty of people have been banned while using CFW and there are still issues even with the latest iXtreme. For example, in order to pass the new Slim FW checks a lot of data has to be swapped around (C4E's so called 'rootkit'). This takes time and the checks take a lot longer to perform than they would on a stock drive. In the worst case it takes CFW takes 5 times longer to perform the check (15 seconds instead of 2-3). If MS have noticed this then it is quite possible that every Slim owner using CFW has already been marked for a ban.

By comparison Xkey features a powerful ARM9 CPU that can perform the FW checks *faster* than the real drive running stock FW. We have the horsepower & the storage capacity to handle anything the future brings.

How will the new XGD3 disc format (eg. Halo Reach) be handled by xKey, any special backup considerations?

We do not anticipate any problems with XGD3, game ISOs are stored on HDD and
are not limited by the capacity of a DL DVDR. Xkey supports any number of HDDs upto 2 TB in size.

Regarding backups in general, most gamers use abgx360 to verify their backup ISO images, is that still recommended with xKey?

abgx360 verifies that the ISO is an accurate backup of a game disk. Whether an ISO is burned to a disk or used by Xkey it must be an accurate backup. For this reason gamers should continue to abgx360 to verify their ISOs.

Besides official updates, are there any features of the xKey that will be open for the user to customize?

We have no plans at this time.

For lazy guys like me, will there be any possibility to select games from the comfort of a sofa?

We do, however, have plans for wireless control of Xkey.

I'm really eager to get my hands on one of these, when can we expect xKey
to be released?

Current plan is for a July launch and we are on track.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about xKey at this point?

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements.

They have also added Liteon 0401 support.
