X800 GTO² to X850 XT Mod

Sapphire's special version of the X800 GTO is called X800 GTO². As you can see in the following picture it uses an R480 core, which is also used on the X850 Pro, XT and XT PE.

The GTO² comes with 12 pipelines enabled by default, but the only lock which limits it to this number of pipelines is located in the Bios.

No cards with defective pipelines have been found yet, which means (so far) the success rate is 100%.

The mod presented here allows to unlock your X800 GTO² to run at 16 pipelines.

Conclusion:
As you can see the performance increases are quite big, especially overclocking seems to help the card a lot.

The performance increase from stock to modded and overclocked is about 30% in all benchmarks. Final performance is the same as a regular X850 XT PE. Quite impressive for a $220 video card and a 100% mod success rate.

Really sweet for a $220 card :D

Nice bargain dude....... Real nice. I could not find out if these are PCIx or vanilla AGP3.0 cards....... But non-the-less real nice deal. And it has Samsung 1.6 GDDR3 ram. So overclockable to around 1/1.6 = .675, i.e 675 Mhz, so 1350 Mhz DDR. Awesome.

yep sapphire is available but this model is not, atleast not yet. ( Its officially here now )
the x800xl is available for 16.5K now(tax and vat extra). Lets hope they bring a lot more variety here including R520s.

Well anything done to the card that its not suppose to voids warranty. but we dont speak truth to the company do we?

I have seen countless 6800s spoiled by vmodding bios and pusing it too high. And here too you can always flash back to original bios in case of RAM or warranty issue.

Doesnt the BIOS mod void warranty ?

Unlocking nVidia's are far easier than ATi's :P !
Hehe unlocking the pipelines comes under voiding warranty as well :). The hardware should not be used for any other purpose than what was originally intended for it. lol. :P ;)

What wrong in Unlocking pipelines :D. The gfx card was built for good performance, and the Unlocked Pipes, give better performances :bleh:

Hehe but the card makers dont approve of it. Only recently have card makers started approving of OC'ing and all by offering warranties on OC'ed cards as well.

Yeah unclocking by means of a third-party software only. Not flashing the BIOs or something. This is just software controlled but in that case, its more kinda hardware related...

Flashing a bios is an software issue, unless you have to physically change any settings on the card it cant be a hardware issue. BTW ATI first had the awesome 9500np unlocked to 9700 pro by just a driver install, IMO Nvidia's cards show a negligble performance increment after unlocking pipes, atleast the 6800 did just show improvements in 3dmark nothing else.

BTW havent seen these GTO2 cards anywhere....

Hmm, the GTO2 cards will definately be sweet, Crossfire enabled too...

OT : Umm, Aces are you really on USS Enterprise ?
