The only advantage PC has over gaming consoles are its updating capability's. On the whole, i take Consoles to be better than PC for lots of reasons -
Every 6-8 months a new video card comes out
In a study conducted by some gaming site, 65% of PC gamers suffer hardware/software related problems such as random restarts, crashes, blue screens, virus's etc etc
PC's require a lot of care and upgrades to stay top of the line and specially of you want to play latest games out there at max reso (only at these settings mind you PC's have been shown to beat consoles) like RAM and video cards, hard disk drive.
There is a limit to the number of games that can be installed on a PC because of HD space, consoles have no such limits, you can piles of collections.
A top of the line gaming PC that can show improvements over consoles cost WAY lot more...
check this screens out of GT4 that is finally making the complete use of ps2's emotion engine-

more, check screens of Shenmue 2 and Splinter Cell on Xbox
God Of War, Dragonball Z : Budokai 3 on ps2. Resident Evil 4 on gamecube and Sonic Adventure on Sega Dreamcast (the beauty of these games can only be found by watching it for real, not lowered down Jpeg pictures, search for their high quality video clips and you'll know what i mean...these games ported to PC would take a 6600 GT to match those graphics and at the same frame rate, and 6600GT costs the same as an XBOX today, which would maximum last only 2-3 years. ps2 has been around since 2000 and still has games like Gt4 and GoW releasing for it that only latest video cards can manage to match and surpass.
The new generation of consoles is gonna put PC out for at least 2 years, only then will PC have vid cards that will surpass console at double the price than consoles.
I had collected 15k for 9800 pro, but spend it on ps2, because someone told me 9800 pro would only last me 1 or 2 yrs max, consoles serve you forever (people in masses still play ps1 and snes like anything! )
if you look at all those points, consoles are overall better. Consoles are gaming cheap way out, a top of the line gaming PC is better, agreed, but not in budget and really not worth spending all that money just to get that frame rate and resolution which ps2 or Xbox could almost match for a reasonable price.
And generally i like consoles better and avoid PC because i've had a very sour experience with crashes, restarts and incompability issues.
