Xbox 360 RCA/Optical Adapter

Hi

I have a Dell U2311H which has a DVI port. I have connected it to my xbox via HDMI to DVI cable. Now to get sound I tried to pop my xbox normal cable and connected the two audio components to my TV (with the HDMI to DVI plugged in). I was not able to hear any audio from it. I heard that the Official Microsoft cable that comes with the Elite can help me get sound.

The cable looks like

I wanted to know the following :

1. Does anybody have this cable with there elite and doesnt use it? How much would you sell it for?

2. Has anybody tried doing this? Does it work?

This is the first time I am posting in this section so pardon me if I have done anything wrong.

No

The HDMI to DVI is plugged into the monitor...

The audio components to CTV with the white and red components..

I get video but no audio :(

normal xbox cable the HDVGA and HD component cable's jack ( that goes in to the Xbox ) is too thick , either the HDMI cable wil go in or they will go in both cant go in at a time !

i used a third party cable for the job ! :)

moreover you can buy a cable from MS that lets you do , the thing you want ( take out audio) with HDMI , costs around 2K though :(

yeah you must be talking about a monitor , right ?

@strategy

If you see the video I just opened the normal cable which came with my xbox and now both of them fit together..

but the thing is I get the video (on my dell u2311H by HDMI/DVI) but get no audio (from optical out to components fitted in my CTV) ...

Please see the video to see what I tried and it is still not working..

@Punker thanks

Yeah I realized these were the only 2 solutions

1. Yes I want to do that and that is why I have put this as a WTB ...but the question is you are saying only one thing works at a time and this cable also has two different cables..HDMI and AV..so thats why I am confused if it will work or not

2. Nope I dont want to sacrifice video quality

Thanks for the inputs

HDMI AV cable have component output directly from cable which can be attached with your speakers and if your panel do not have HDMI port then use this adapter - eBay India: DVI-I Female to HDMI Male Adapter Converter 4 HDTV (item 160529302861 end time 15-Jan-2011 22:54:20 IST)

Yeah I have such an adpater already and am getting the video to my monitor...

Yes, I want to buy the HDMI AV cable basically the one which has RCA/Optical audio out...and that is available for 1k... I want to know if anyone wants to sell there unused cable

I USED , a HDMI cable for video and a third party cable along with it at the same time for optical out.

so it surely works , as i have used the same setup for almost 1.5 years .

lET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT ,

you are using HDMI for video and Optical out from the component cable to the optical in of your receiver / speaker .

right ?

IT should work

I think the problem is that you are not changing the AUDIO SETTINGS

No actually I have a core version with HDMI

The cable that shipped with my box doesnt have an optical out for audio...just components cable which has 3rca out...

so I would need to buy the HDMI AV Cable :(
