The decision to discontinue the Mi 3 comes hand in hand with the launch of Redmi 1s, which would go on sale on September 2 for a price of Rs 5,999. Many fans would surely be disappointed by this development as they couldn’t buy their dream smartphone due to intense demand. The last batch also sold out in 2.4 seconds with many people turning disappointed, confirms the same. We would not be surprised if we see people selling their used/new Mi 3 at a premium very well knowing it has been discontinued for an indefinite time and has considerable demand. Selling Mi 3 via black markets even took place during it’s sale.
Xiaomi plans to focus on the Redmi 1s as of now and would like to introduce the Redmi Note after about a month in October. Around 40,000 units of Redmi 1s would be available at launch on September 2 along with its accessories. The Mi 3 accessories is about to go on sale this week along with the Xiaomi Piston 2 in ear headphone which we have already reviewed.

Xiaomi is specially focussing on the Redmi series as it is easier to mass produce them compared to the Mi 3. So, it will be able to cater to the demands of the Indian smartphone consumers who surely can’t get enough of the ‘Xiaomi hangover’. Also, with great pricing of the Redmi 1s at Rs 5,999, it could easily match up with the phones priced at Rs 15,000. Thus, it would also have extraordinary demands. We would expect Redmi Note to be launched at Rs 8,999.
People disappointed with not getting the Mi 3, would surely get the Redmi 1s or for that matter, wait for the Redmi Note. Also, people not in any hurry and adamant to use a flagship phone from Xiaomi, would wait for the Mi 4 which is due for late 2014 or early 2015 according to Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi Global.

Xiaomi could bring the Mi 3 back in November or it would be permanently discontinued and would pave the way for its latest flagship smartphone, Mi 4 for a price tag of about Rs 19,000.

Its very much expected! Mi3 ruled for almost a month and a half, Mi3 sold roughly 1 lakh pieces. Now its the turn of 1s, say they sell around 2 lakh pieces and then they will remove that too, to make way for the Redmi Note around in Oct - Nov'14, They will run it till mid Dec and bring in their current flagship Mi 4 by then!

I think this is fake news or rumour mongering! This will shoot the price of the Mi3 in resale market through the roof, let's wait and watch.I find it hard to believe that Xiaomi would stop selling the Mi3 which it's making decent profit unless it brings in the mi4

The stock for the phone is done. They dumped what was left. They are now focussing on Production of Mi4.

But it takes time for the firmware to mature, mi-3 had less bugs because it had been out in the wild a good eight months before it debuted in India. Getting a mi-4 a month or two from now means you will have to live with more bugs.

But thats the natural progression right?

I think that could be the only reason. Making Mi4 is more beneficial to them than Mi3.

There is a frustration element in here that can be overcome if one considers last years flagships second hand.

Is the difference between s600 & s800 that noticeable in every day use.

Progression for xiaomi with state of the art pricing.

If Xiaomi want to "dump" some more Mi3's at these prices I am more than happy to pick up their shit, no pun intended.

@blr_p Which of last years flagships can be bought for less than 14k (used)? And how is buying a used year old phone making up for not buying something that still has state of the art hardware?

You are thinking from a user's point of view who would be more than happy to use Mi3.

The company wants to push better hardware and a newer phone in the market and production of that will be priority of demand of Mi3 in India which is not fetching the company any money. The publicity will continue in the country when all the sales for Red Mi continue. So they might be back with Mi4 after 3 months.

What you think?

If you don't want to use the Mi3 then why should you care if it's discontinued or still in production/stock? (If I have not understood what you have written then please be free to clarify.

Maybe at 20k, but i'd take that then have to put up with this none available nonsense.

How does it make up ? a flagship takes two years to be equalled by a midrange.

What I am saying is that making Mi4 now makes more sense than making Mi3.
Ahh! Of course it does for Xiaomi. But wouldn't they make more money as the components for Mi3 will be cheaper?[DOUBLEPOST=1409137498][/DOUBLEPOST]

At 20K it's still 6k more than the Mi3. I wouldn't call buying a year old (used) phone at 6 more making up, but then again you and I could have different preferences.

Why not buy a Mi3 for 16-17k from a third party instead of buying a used phone for even more than that?

I look at requirements above budget. I find it most foolish that people would short change themselves over 25%. Don't have it as yet, then save up. DOH!

You should not have to put up with not available, after waiting and deliberating as long as it takes to pick a phone. Next thing is hold on to the damn thing and not flog it after a few months so as to recycle your money. get the full use.

As to which ones z or g2.

s4 would have been ideal but samsung messed it up. s3 was a classic.

x & m7 are niche
