CPU/Mobo XMS2 RAM Issue

Hey,

Two of my friends have PCs with the same config:
Phenom II x4
Asus M4N78-Pro Mobo
2x2GB XMS2 DDR2 @ 800Mhz RAM

Both of them dont OC the RAM,

And both their PCs were functioning properly till a Blue screen appeared one day,

And now when they Put one stick at a Time (Tried in every slot) it works Fine, but when both the sticks are put together it dosent work, ie. Blue Screen appears during OS boot up...
Also the when we try to enter the BIOS we see Please wait, and nothing happens after that...

All these Problems just vanish when only one RAM is put at a time... (Each and evry slot working, and each RAM working Perfectly INDIVIDUALLY...)

What may be the problem???

I think this is a general Problem with XMS2 since both my friends RAMs stoped working after 2Years of use...

Are these memory pair bought individually or as a single kit ?

I've got 4x1GB XMS2 non matched installed. I had to tweak timings to 5-5-5-18 and jack up the voltage to 1.9V to improve system stability and set FSB DRAM ratio 400Mhz 1:1

According to corsair forum voltage can be set to 2V without voiding manufacturer warranty as xms2 is installed with heat spreaders.
 
^ They were bought as single RAMs, but the model no. is same...

So timings are same...

Also if I want to enter the BIOS, I cant do so cause it hangs on 'Please wait' when I have inserted both RAMs...
 
^^ same model numbers is not sufficient for matched memory pairs as explained by corsair guide. They have to bought a single kit.

spd modification tools exists for better memory communication but surely will void warranty.

Have you tried memtest with single ram stick installed ?
 
Some boards aren't compatible with running two modules of a given make together. Happened long back with me with Asus A8N E and Corsair Value Select. It supported one of the modules, but not two. Was clearly given in the motherboard manual.

Such things happen sometimes and I guess almost always only with Asus!
