XP Booting Disasters - please help me

Hey Guyz, I've P4 Processor, 915GAV chipset, 1GB 400FSB DDR & 256MB 333FSB DDR that makes it to 1.25GB RAM, i've connected a DVD burner but its not on the boot list in bios, i've 200GB SATA 7200RPM HDD, but my comp is takin 7 minutes to boot to logon screen (The Damn progress Bar runs 70 times), i've been following this thread for past 2 days n i've been able to tweak settings as guyz had suggested but still, the best so far that i've been able to reduce it to is about 3 minutes now. Now here comes the weird part. If my system is shutdown for lets say more than about an hour or so without being switched on it takes this much time (i mean 3 minutes as of now) to boot to logon, but if i shutdown n restart n number of time later to this it will take between 45-60 seconds. I've written a batch file to clear Prefetch everytime system restarts, that did the trick to some extent, but when the system is not in use for long time n i switch it on this is happening.In this 200GB HDD 100 GB is in NTFS & other 100GB in FAT32. I've tried formatting n reinstalling the XP twice, but stille the same problem.i also wanna tell few more things i also had connected a PATA 40GB HDD of 5200RPM in the system which i've disconnected now. Can i use this HDD??Also the RAM FSB is not matching....how much is this affecting my system???n can anyone plz help me thru this problem of long booting time???for your info i'm gonna also post the readings i got from BOOTVIS which i got just before posting this thread....the graph is just too big to post, so i'm just typin in the values

Now interesting part between 91st second & 108th Second there is no activity, but disk utilisation is almost averaging above 95%

Again in continuation of the long descreptive thread posted by me, here is another symptom that i wanna bring to everyones notice. Yesterday night i left the system for download for a while n had set the timer for autoshutdown, today morning i switched it on, n it said some file was missing, this is also another symptom that i forgot to mention yesterday. Sometimes it just doesn't boot but instead says there is some file missing, later after a couple of minutes i switch on the machine again, it boots like a brand new machine. Plz help me its driving me crazy

Here are more symptoms, today i came back from work and switched on the system, it said Disk Read Error, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, I switched off and on, it said to select the right boot disk, then i switched on & off again, it then said that some files were missing, again i switched off & on again, then it took some time but booted to logon screen n was working normally n at the same old good speed..... PLZ HELP

dude,first,edit ur posts to a single one.

As for the problem,this might be because some conflicts.Try clearing the BIOS and then did u check if the jumper settings on the burner are correct (like the master/slave things)?
 
hi,

u mentioned u have a SATA hdd, is it installed correctly? have u checked the hdd for bad sectors, etc, try defragging the hdd...all the basic stuff. if all this doesnot help then if u have the waranty of that hdd, get a replacement..

Hey Vishal, Dude did all basic possible stuff man, got tired, finally i even formatted and reinstalled, but still the same thing man, i've havin a gut feelin Kumars trick of BIOS might work as i vaugely remember this thing started after i updated my BIOS, but stilll PLZ GUYZ KEEP SUGGESTIN
 
refer to ur mobo mannual,itll tell u how to reset ur BIOS (generally involves shorting a jumper and remooving the CMOS battery for a few minutes)
 
Hey guys finally i'm back to post on what really happened to my system....i went thru lot of websites on y this whatever was happening(read my first thread) was happening n finally all sites were talkin one thing in common about MBR....it seems that when MBR goes corrupt no matter how many time we format or delete n re-create the partitions the HDD will not support smooth booting of the OS....i even tried erasing MBR by MBRWiz n MBRFix...it did show that the readings in MBR was deleted successfully, also FYI once MBR is deleted all the partitions in the HDD are deleted n so it happened so i re-formatted n recreated the partitions and re-installed the XP but yet the same problem....i even used Ultimate Boot CD tools HDTunes to check the HDD for any damage but it gave a clean chit to HDD....so what i did was i simply borrowed a friends spare HDD n installed XP n ran for a couple of days it was smooth n fast....so i finally had to buy a new HDD...i got WD HDD SATA-2 160Gb n its runnin super smooth....thx again guyz for ur help
 
well you never mentioned which brand of hdd you had in ur initial first post. its the reason many here did not take interest. its only later when you posted ur smart readings one could make out that it was a seagate hdd.
and from the symptoms you have mentioned MBR was never an issue ...if MBR is corrupt ur m/c will never boot.since all the partition info and the first boot file cluster / sector number is stored there.
"Zero Fill " utility from seagate could have been of help in ur case. most probably i think this is related to hardware issue in the hdd. dried up grease motor , or fried up transient surge protector on the 5V line as a result of bad spikes from the psu ....etc ... and many more causes.
