I once built a PC for a friend. Installed XP on a sata hdd, on a asus board. Install went through just fine. Installed a bunch of drivers, restarted, and got the same error message. Fiddled around in bios, somehow got it working.

Check the SATA and IDE settings in bios.

Im posting this message from the same PC with the older Hard drive.

So, RAM is good.

All U guys are making me feel that the BIOS in my A8N-E is suspect.

Go stepwise now.__

Disable your old HDD, plugin your sata 250.In bios enable Enhanced sata mode.
Set first boot device your Cd-rom/rw
Boot via xpsp2 cd. (first verify that your cd is GOOD, try on other machines).
Press F6 to install sata drivers (it may prompt for your mobo cd/floppy)

thereafter, delete all partitions and create fresh ones.
Then wait further.

if everything goes fine, cool!! else Upgrade your bios. n that'll def. solv your probs.

Also, forget partition magic. Start the setup again, and format through it.
I second that. I think it's a simple issue. Just reformat the new hard drive (deleting any pre-existing partition made my partition magic) within Windows XP setup. It's probably because the partition hasn't been marked as a primary partition when you formatted it under partition magic.

I've now installed SuseLinux on this same HDD and im using it for the internet only.

Im gonna try installing XP on another partition.

Let me see.

Just thought about this... may be obvious... but it's important... Is your boot partition set as the active partition
