YAY windows 8 is out on MSDN

Guys with MSDN access tooth padho, windows 8 is out, the difference this time is , unlike windows 7 you will only be getting 5 licenses this time instead of 10, so install wisely and let the downloads begin

im at 60%, let the download complete i shall install and share the results !!

BTW, which build number is it at? I snagged a copy from wzor (i think :P) with build number 9200 a few days back. Will be checking it out later this week, if I get the time :P

Build is 9200. BTW, entering text here seems to be problematic on IE10 on Win8 :) Can't press enter to get a new line. Must need some compatibility view setting or something...Posting from Win 8 :) Really enjoying the UI. Can't seem to activate it, settings page says "cannot activate right now", didn't ask for product key during installation either. Doesn't allow personalisation unless you activate. I guess I'll be googling for a while now...
Some drivers (at least my ASUS Xonar DX) are not there, so no sound on my desktop. Working well on my old HP tablet PC, too bad its just a 12 inch screen at 1280x800.

The file name is : en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso, file size 3.34GB

Im downloading the RTM (Final version) from MSDN , just about 23% remaining as im writing , and will also share the build number! as far as what i've heard , Windows 7 drivers must be compatible with windows 8, downloaded latest version of all the drivers, took a data backup, now waiting for the download to complete so that i can initiate installation, will only be able to post more screenshots and results by evening post work that is at 7:30ish

vishalrao : im having the same issue with Rockmeit on win 7, so i think that isnt the browser issue, windows 8 showed up in downloads by 12:05 PM IST ( yes, i was refreshing the downloads page every 3-5 mins from 10 PM ), how did ya manage installing it already ? Either a super fast connection or you been awake all night!!! anyways lets enjoy the current build :p

It showed up on my MSDN page around 11pm, downloaded in about 2.5 hrs. (Got BSNL's 8 mbps link heh, but was getting about 4 mbps speed).

ASUS Xonar DX Windows 7 x64 driver seems to have worked, have got sound now.

I was able to set IE home page by first going to the "classic desktop" (desktop tile) then opening IE there, then you get the regular Alt->Tools menu.

Probably can configure IE site compatibility there as well...

One mistake I did was to download the VL iso which seems to need some MSDN account admin to get keys to activate it :(

So I'm downloading the Win8 x64 retail ISO and looking at the "get keys" info, I hope this ISO is both for Win8 and Win8 Pro common.

I'll probably reinstall over the weekend and browse app store to check out whats what. I guess traditional non-Metro UI apps (like OpenOffice, VLC, Chrome, Firefox) will cause the UI to switch to classic desktop, which is what seems to have happened when installing/running 7-zip.

I guess it will be a long while for popular apps to go to the new UI formerly known as Metro-style :)

Installed Win 8 Successfully, everything worked well but my ethernet connection doesnt seem to work, entered IPs manually .. no go, Same connection on windows 7 Works absolutely fine, another laptop works fine on this connection,

Disabled windows firewall.. no go
Connected my S2 as tethered modem, internet connection works but on LAN doesnt seem to work

Network status shows connected !! but no internet connection right after fresh installation

Have win 8 dual booting with win7. Booting into win 8 messes with the win 7 install causing chkdsk to run on all drives. Has anyone else experienced this ?

Was able to fix my internet issue it was set to assign 3 IPs didnt realise my brother connected his new phone on wifi at the same time, set the router to assign 4 and issue fixed , installing all my regular apps now , performance is good but i didnt like metroUI based start menu

adityamunshi - Installed win 8 even before its release in MSDN in my laptop. Frequent freezeups even when i am not running any 3rd party software. Just browsing with IE10 And in IE10 as others pointed out there is an issue which prevents the proper functioning of the ENTER key in techenclave typing window

.The freeze up is So worse, that i cant even invoke the task manager and close any application which causes the freeze. No option except to long press the power button on my laptop. Upon doing this thing, chkdisk started running on boot in windows 7. Was very annoying. Finally resorted to this method which solved the issue..

type chkntfs /x c: . The X tells Windows to NOT check that particular drive on the next reboot. Now manually reboot your computer, it should not do a chkdsk and should take you directly to normal Windows login.

Once Windows has fully loaded, bring up another Command Prompt and enter chkdsk c: /r . Reply Y when asked if you want this to happen on the next boot. This should take you through 5 stages of the chkdsk scan and will unset that dirty bit. This can take an hour or more depending on the size of your hard drive, be patient and let it complete.

Once booted back to Windows, open another Command Prompt and query the dirty bit again by entering fsutil dirty query c: and Windows will confirm that the dirty bit is not set on that drive.

Finally i removed the WIN 8 crap, however i am using it in my desktop where i have not encountered any freezes so far. Seems some sort of incompatibility with certain hardware...
