The 280GTX is actually the successor of the 9800 right?

And the ATI equivalent of the 280 is the 4870X2? or the 4870 itself?

@Stalker --- Cost?

How will the 4850 compare with other cards? I know you cant tell me exactly, but is it expected to be better than the 3870? What about the 3870X2, 8800GTX/Ultra stuff?

Yup the GTX280 is the successor ti the 9800GTX; :)

The ATI equivalent of the GTX280 can actually surpass our expectations if all goes well; I'm talking abt the 4870x2;

The 4870 in itself must be a pwrful entry-level high-end card; :)

Cost in India can be anywhere close to 17k~18k [speculations!!] if the 4850 cost can come to 13~14k and even more; :)

The 4850 is 30% faster than the 8800GT; way better than the 3870;

A comparison with the G80GTX/Ultra may be questionable though;

The latter can prove better at higher resolutions and the Ultra may be able to bet the 4850 in some games but only some proper reviews other than the user impressions can bring out those; :)

Its 4850 for u Nikhil; :)

And if u cannot wait any longer, get hold of a 9800GTX; 15k can get u an OC'd version as well;

9800GTX for 15k in India? First hand or second hand?

GTX260 @ 20K odd should be what you need for the next 2 years

E8400 or get a Q9450.

If you're not upgrading for the next 2 years after this then don't skinch on fast components.

Board Abit IP 35 Pro. Better built than the cheaper E version.

Get memory from newegg.

2x2 GB DDR2 800/1066 MHz

full hd = 24".. guess thats in excess of 17k...

dell has a the e248wfp.. in the tn's..

17k is still reasonable. Pour in suggestions :D

@Zhops -- I want separate advice. I have ZERO idea of current prices, so budget isnt an issue right now. When I have a better idea of what is available and for how much, I'll fix a budget.

If it's too expensive, not worht it. I thought it will be nice to have that feature and add another card later.

I am not too particular on that anyway. I think it might make more sense to just replace the GPU.

And anyhow a Crossfire motherboard is not very expensive either;

Get hold of the cheapest X38 motherboard, the abit IX38 Quad GT for 10k odd and u've 2 PCI-E 2.0 16x slots;

Slap 2 4850s or 4870s and then u're done with it for a couple of years; :)

For the rest apollyon's suggestion holds good enough; :)

And Sidhu's quote of 190$ ~ to 11k is a joke!!
Get a quote from KMD first, Sidhu; Or perhaps u're talking abt these prices after 2 months of launch!!
Damn sure sourcing the 4850 via the KMD route will fetch easily over a 13grand!! [BEsides it was $199 in that site u posted in the Hot Delas section IIRC]; ;)

spare some thot for us poor souls and pls dont use sch a title for a thread..

Everytime i see that title, it occurs to me that poor old nikhil has inserted his finger in an electric socket ...

yeah Dell E248WFP is a TN panel and i think its cost around 17-18 k thru TE GO's or bargaining with DELL reps .as you want something cheap ..i think this one will be the best..

on the other hand Dell E2408 ultra sharp is a non-TN (ie-S-pva panel) and costs more than 25-26k thru GO's and DELL EPP :).but it's like HD in it's full glory.

anyways you can enjoy full HD in both of the above i guess !..so go for any of them according to the budget.

PS: i am not sure but if i am not wrong ..i think 24" is the bare minimum for a full HD/1080p resolution (1920×1080). and thats the reason ive suggested 24" DELL models.

there are other 24" models available from BenQ which are quiet good but i think they are expensive.

EDIT: one more thing the 248WFP does not have a HDMI connector(incase it's important for you) ..but supports HDPC.

while ultra sharp has HDMI connector.

Well, then I'll just fix the remaining parts for you :P

CM690 - 4k
Corsair hx620 - 6350 (or TX650 for 6.5K)
WD 640GB - ~4.2k

Edit: Do keep in mind that running games @ full hd means a beefy gfx which means a beefy psu and a bigger cabby and more fans. :)

First hand;

But a li'l over 15k I presume [I was quoted 16500 for the evga 9800GTX when i'd asked for a quote from KMD a week back as a result of the inflated prices of the USD]; Funky however got his 9800GTX for 15k odd; :)

U should however look for the 4850 since u're not getting it in a week's time or so; :)

GTX260 @ 20K odd

That odd includes a 4k in it if its INR prices u're considering;

@zhoppy... if you cant arrange for a 620hx at that rate for me right now!!!.. you've had it :P :P

also the 2408wfp is 30k odd.. via epp now.. prices have gone up.

+1 to spacescreamer.. also spend a lil amount of time going through all the other threads on the forums.. there must be a million threads here on such topics :)

Anymore YEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAA's going to be started in the OC section?? :P

Before that I'd suggest a good aftermarket cooler like the Xigmatek S1283 [never heard of aint??? Its a TRUE beater at the price it comes for and bundles a good high-CFM in the package as well]; :)

gtx260 is for 24k.. as per phoenix's latest GO...

the 4850 is for arnd 200usd.. makes it wayy more vfm in comparison. and it should last him for sometime too. he can always get another card later on and go Xfire..

the 260 has a us pricing of arnd 450usd.

if you want wide viewing angles, stay away from the tn panels.
the 2408WFP is just brilliant, if you can get it for 30K its worth it.

are you going to place your rig on a desk and work on a chair? or do you have a bed close by and plan to lay back a little bit while watching movies?

Is it ok if I get the stuff from newegg through KMD?

What are the chances of things going kaput? What about warranty? Will KMD help me? Or am I on my own?

No yeeehaaa in OC section until I get the components :P

I think the 24" models are too expensive. I'll settle for aa 20" one.

How good is the Dell 2009? Any reviews?

@Zhops --- No hard disk for now.

Yup KMD'll help u if u fetch any product from him and it goes kaput during the warranty period;

All u need to do is send him the damaged stuff; :)

How good is the Dell 2009? Any reviews?

Its a relatively newer 20incher and uses an 8bit TN panel;

If u can source it for 12k and less; go ahead; Dell hasn't put up a price in its site;

Else stick to a 22incher at 14k~15k; :)

lotsa ppl buy stuff from kmd.

stuff from newegg will go kaput as regularly as locally purchased stuff.. as in, if you buy gskill from newegg or from prime.. its still gskill right... if stuff goes kaput he will help you in sending stuff back to the states for RMA.. you still gotta pay for shipping though.

i would recommend relying on him only for hard to procure must have (or) must have too expensive locally hardware.

I know lots of people buy stuff through KMD. I bought a pair (or was it two?) of EP630s.

See, I had a bad experience last time with my 6800GT. It still had warranty, but the problem was, there was no one to bring it back into India. BFG did not ship outside the US. That was my biggest problem.

If KMD can help me with that, then I guess I'll buy some stuff with his help.

I am looking at buying only the RAM and GPU(depending on price and availability) from the US.

RAM is for sure. I dont think you get good DDR2-1000 RAM here.

The earlier 20" (2008, 2007) used what?

A 22" at 14-15k is better than this 8 bit TN panel? What panels do those 22"ers use?
