Got myself a Youtelecom connection couple of days back. Details:

Plan: 512kbps Unlimited.
Initial payment: Rs. 3114 for 3 months' usage + Rs. 500 for the cable modem - prepaid i.e.
Further payments: ~850 per month prepaid.
Place: Surat.

Connection seems to be pretty fair and cheap! Haven't experienced any downtimes as yet. Torrent speeds averaging at 58kBps and at times peaks at 59kBps.

Thought of letting you guys know about this ISP.

This was iqara earlier. Nightangel plans rocked

I had their connection till early 2008. On weekends, their speeds dropped to some 1-2 KB/s on a 192kbps connection (at least in my area). I'm very content with this Reliance 600kbps unlimited connection.

I don't think I'm ever going back to You telecom no matter what scheme they offer. I feel the same way about Sify.

Not surprising as they are a similar to a LAN cable provider as opposed to an ADSL one.

Youtelecom used to be called iqara.

its an awesome service for sure from youtelecom...

if only you could learn to hack ur modem :)

myself and my friends enjyed atleast 3 years of 2mbps UL line @ the meagre cost of 450 rs/month.

but last february they updated their system security in navi mumbai via the help taken from CISCO..

PS:

we did not try to hack it again :(

coz we had already ordered for mtnl 2mbps NU !

but if u want to try... IT DOES WORK...

I was about to opt for Reliance when a friend of mine hinted me about this ISP. And I do not really want to spend 1.4k (?) for the Reliance 600kbps connection (which i know is marginally better with good customer service and good speeds) when this one's available for pretty cheap. Besides it wasn't readily available. The Rel. customer representative said they may have to pull the line to out place which might delay the connection by another fortnight.

I had the same plan. It gave decent speed. But they gave a hard time during the billing. I still remember, they used to offer a scheme where if renewed the plan before a day before the scheduled date, you'd get 15 days of extra usage. The only thing is, they never gave those extra days!
And then, the downtimes became a routine.

So finally quit YouTelecom/Iqara and got Airtel. Hasn't given any problem yet :D

I was using these guys for a while, and the service was pathetic, the local service guys were worse, and the billing was the pits. They were worse than Tata Indicom, that's how bad it was for me. I had the choicest of abuses for them, all suffixed with "you". Or prefixed sometimes, and uttered practically every third day. The connection was the least stable I've ever experienced, the downtime was to the order or 15% or 20%, and when the cable cuts happened in 2007 they took three months to restore the service to full speed, two months after the cable cuts were repaired. To top it all they kept sending me bills for four months after disconnection, and even had those collection goons calling me up to pay. I threatened police action, and that is when they got off my back. Thank heaven I had things in writing.

Just like any other Citigroup company I guess, you gotta watch out.

I was in Bandra (W), Mumbai, and used them for nearly 19 months all told. The first time I used them was bad enough, but they gave me a renewal offer of 2 months paid/4 months free, so it worked out to ~250 bucks/mo for 6 months for a 192 kb/s unlimited connection. I just managed to use about 4 months, the rest was downtime. Still, not a bad deal but it was painful.

as far as surat they might have good service (formerly iqara) but those where their remaining connectivity is really bad .

other cities where service was so poor & customer service was as per customer "worst in world " , due to all these , they still having huge pending issues with clients specially when it comes for refund etc .:ashamed:

If I am not wrong Youtelecom /Iqara is based on LAN and mostly works on the basis of local cable operators franchise. So at the end of the day the downtime and customer service totally depends on how the Local Operator is.

Its the same with Sify/24online or any ISP which is dependent on local cable guy for the network.
In my case earlier there used to be downtime atleast once a week. The situation was kind of similar to what Cranky posted :P
After some of the local guys managing the cables and connection changed . The service has become very good (has been down only once in last 5-6 months)
and the new plans(which they have under name of 24online network) are also really good.

and ohh yeah Congrats Gannu:hap2:

I had this ISP when it was Iqara. Here is my experience.
They were the only guys who had the guts a decade ago to buck the local cablewala and give me a connection. This at a time when Sify was running scared.
Was very happy with them as my previous experience was with VSNL dial-up. :( All went well for a few years. Then MGL started dogging up the roads to lay Gas lines. :@ That is when I started having problems with Iqara. Can't blame them for that but their response to the situation was very poor. I had a lot of trouble with them and finally shifted over to MTNL Triband.
I have spoken to a few subscribers they still have in my area and they are quite happy with the service.
I believe they will be better in Surat as it is closer to their HQ.

well youtelecom/iqara service are not same across. You might be lucky to get good service and constant speed.

I used to have their connection in '07 @thane which used to break in slightest rain fall and was same for the entire area.

I had a internet blackout for almost a week because one of their employee ran away with all the collection amount lol, hence teh blackout.

I still have their Motorola adsl modem, which I didn't returned coz of their usual foul billing.

I advise to inquire in your neighborhood b4 taking the connection.

I will swear by not to touch you telecom in Surat. :P :bleh:

I had taken their unlimited connection, way back, but one horrible downtime ran for 16 days, i went there personally and lambasted their deputy manager.
After that my connetion was terminated.

Your area is nearby their headquarters so you may get better service.

if this was formerly known as iqara as someone pointed out, just wait till it rains, and then let us know :P
in baroda, iqara is REALLY bad!! dont you get BSNL there?
