Techtree.com India > Reviews > Basics > Motherboards > Exclusive Review of the Zotac ION

Pricing doesn't seem good:

"Zotac is offering up to four variants of the ION all at different price points. The base model will start somewhere around Rs. 7,800 and go all the way up to Rs. 12,800. In this range you have a choice of the Atom N230 (Single Core) with and without WiFi and AC adapter or the N330 with the same options"

in that review they say that the zotac mini itx mobo based on nvidia 9400 igp coupled with a E2160 performs lower in HD decoding then this nvidia ion which has a even slower atom processor, strange.

check out anandtech review its faster then pentium 4 2.66ghz in many usefull benchmarks. AnandTech: Zotac's Ion: The World's First mini-ITX Ion Board

in the same review they mention that there will 4 versions of zotac ion A,B,C,D ."The more expensive “A” model ships with a dual-core Atom 330 processor, a mini-PCIe WiFi card and an external DC power supply. The “B” model comes with a single-core Atom 230 processor, no WiFi and requires a standard power supply. They are priced at $189 and $139, respectively, from etailers. Add another $10 for retail pricing. two additional versions coming: a C and a D version. The C version will be a single-core product with the DC power supply and the D version will be a dual-core product with no power supply. "

The price will be a serious downer unless somebody really wants it.... I think this platform will make sense after a year when the dust settles down & the prices cool down enough to a sane level...

It will definitely be a great hit with the HTPC community and also for those who run 24x7 download rigs due to the low power consumption.

No doubt it is a great product. But price is somewhat downer!

Sure it takes less power but price is overkill

One can easily build a HTPC with

- single or Dual Core cpu + micro atx motherbaord + AMD 3450 card = Rs. 6400 Intel / AMD Single Core CPU for Rs. 6150 or Rs. 7650 with Dual Core AMD or Intel CPU

or

780G motherbaod with Single core AMD CPU = Rs. 6200 Aprox

Use 45 nm intel cpu E5200 for power saving

Add Wifi card if needed

Personally, i'd still stick to m-atx, but if the price comes down a bit, this could be tempting :)

PS: Had been reading reviews of this board since a long time, good that the resident zotac rep. finally posted about it. :)
