Mosquitoes have been sucking the life out of me since past couple of weeks thanks to the cloudy weather in delhi and a giant park outside my house!

It's become really difficult for me to study in the night..

I hate spraying Mosquito/Insect repellents, and All-Out etc don't really work!

I'm thinking of buying an small indoor Electric Mosquito Zapper for my room, any suggestions guys..

Are these zappers effective and are they safe to use indoors?

The working principle behind these mosquito repellent is that, they produce ultrasonic sound which irritates the mosquito, and they don't come near.

Humans can't hear ultrasonic sound, so i think its safe for humans. But if you have any pet doggy, then they might get irritate do, as dogs can hear ultrasonic sound.

I was more keen on the zapper, the one with ultra-violet light that electrocutes insects..

As far as i know, the zapper u talk about are gonna be ineffective on mosquitoes.

Reason being that the mosquitoes are lured towards humans by the exhaled CO-2, where as the zappers attract pesky insects by virtue of ultraviolet lights installed inside.

What you can try is an Octenol based zapper.

Also, as a forewarning, do NOT go for the mosquito repellant coils as they are not fit for humans.. their smoke rather. Secondly, according to a recent consumer awareness ad. Allout is the safest bet in terms of liquid Allethrin based repellants, iinm.

These zappers don't work. They are just useless. I had already tried one from GoldMedal brand and of no use.

Your best bet is going to be a full sized mosquito net. No side effects, and extremely effective. A net that can cover a double bed costs around Rs.400 only.

You can get those handheld zappers which look like tennis racquet. Close all windows and doors. Kill all mosquitos and get back to your studies

Alternately have the nets installed in those windows which you intend to open for natural ventilation and light. This is very effective. You can choose from a wide variety of materials for the net ranging from inexpensive nylon cloth to Aluminium and SS304. If it is a nylon net, they come stitched with velcro so you can remove it for washing and apply it back easily. If it is a metal based net, it would be permanently screwed to the window on a frame and you can use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the dust.

There are folks who install these nets after taking the dimensions of the windows. Generally found in the classifieds in the newspaper.

Something that works for me is a liberal application of Prickly heat power on the exposed parts of the body.

Those things also work very well. Mom got one for 200 bucks. You will have to use it manually, but it kills mosquitoes in a jiffy.

Hmmm. Since you already have a SII, why not just install one of those free mosquito repelling apps? On the downside, see ads being displayed.

Maybe you can rig the tennis racquet to the fan so you have a swirling vortex of electricity to protect you

Odomos works - but only in non-city areas (I guess rural mosquitoes haven't developed resistance yet)

The tennis racquet is the best option, just wave it around once in a while, and all your problems are solved

dude.. worst options are mosquito repellant sprays and skin creams..

those home puny sized UV zappers dont really work efficiently..

mosquito net is a good option. even i use that.. but the best of all (along with mosquito net), buy the Mosquito Racket.... its very cheap, about 130 bucks.. and you can have the pleasure of personally electrocuting those blood sucking parasites.. although i sleep inside a net, while on the computer or any other work, i use the racket to just zap em all. its like a badminton racket..

I have that blue colour one. it works very mildly catching a few mosquitoes but others still get to you.

only failsafe method is to zap them all with the tennis raquet zapper and mosquito net your windows.

I hate odomos! I guess I'll start with the racket.

Thanks guys..
