I am sorry if something similar to this has already been requested on the forum. If so, kindly redirect me to the post

I don't get a lot of time now,so firstly i am confused whether I should be going for a dedicated graphics card at all.
This is the major reason why i am opting for a i5 3570k.it has a decent IGP(HD 4000).So i am planning to see if i will be playing Arkham City/Skyrim/Mass Effect 3 for the first 3 months.if yes, then i will invest in a proper GPU.
Second reason for opting for the 3570k was Office work.I will be working on Android/iOS development, both of which required a lot of power to run(on a virtual machine in the case of iOS development).also, since i never had a really great GPU,i was always into emulation.with my new machine i will like to run ps2 emulation as well.

Since now i've started earning, i can finally get a machine i always wanted.Otherwise,I had to finish almost all the games at the lowest settings.(No i havent tried BF3 yet, you'll find out why below)

Q: What is your budget?
50k (for now)

Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
warning: 6 year old PC!!

Processor : 3.2Ghz Intel Pentium D
Motherboard : Intel Desktop Board D946GZIS(no need to look it up.its OLDDD!!!)
GPU : No current graphics card (the nvidia 8600 gt that i had blew up :( )
Ram : 2 Gb DDR2 Ram (667 mhz)
Storage : 1 Tb Western Digital WD green HDD(purchased 3 years ago)
DVD drive : Samsung DVD writer
Monitor : Samsung LCD 17" Monitor
Mouse Keyboard : iBall Mouse and Keyboard
PSU : Some local PSU 400W
Cabinet : Some 6 year old Cabinet -_-

Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
the HDD & DVD writer :P

Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
Not really decided.this was just something i was thinking about before coming here.

Processor : Intel i5 3570k 3.4ghz
Motherboard : Asrock z77 extreme 4 (Honestly,I have no clue about motherboards.z77,b75,p68 etc etc.Picked this because this was the most popular motherboard. Kindly suggest)
Ram : Corsair Vengeance / G.Skill RipJaws 8gb 1600Mhz (I was going to go for a single stick option.but it seems dual sticks are a much better approach.Suggest which one and also clock speed)
SSD : OCZ 60gb(Suggest better if any)
GPU : if possible .....Ati Radeon 7850 / Nvidia 660 (I love nvidia cards.but i'm attracted to radeon cards for their VFM.their driver support and their heating/lifetime issues do scare me though.Kindly suggest)
PSU : Corsair 600GS
Cabinet : confused between Corsair 400r(Not available at prime.was hoping to get everything from one store),Cooler Master HAF 912 and the NZXT Guardian 921RB.The NZXT Phantom would be my dream cabinet. But i seriously dont have the budget for that >.<
Monitor : Dell S2240L 21.5 inch LED
Mouse Keyboard combo : Kindly suggest.

Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
If i cant afford a GPU this time AND if i am gaming for the 3 months mentioned, then definitely a GPU.Also a second HDD/SSD in the next 6 months

Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
Mumbai(preferably from a single store)

Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
No

Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
Gaming
Desktop Processing
Watching HD movies

Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
Not sure about AMD processors and Radeon graphic cards.Intel and Nvidia prefered.

Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
RPG : Skyrim/Mass Effect 2 at medium to high settings
Action : Arkham City at medium to high settings
Fps : Crysis 2/BF3 at medium to high settings

Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
Gaming - 1080p/720p
Desktop - 1080p

Q: Are you looking to overclock?
No

Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
Windows 7 64 bit

I know that it might not be possible to fit a GPU within the 50k budget. It's fine.Though i would love it if you guys can really help me out here

Thanks in Advance

@sephiroth here is what I would suggest --

Onboard iGP's are not going to run any current generation title at even medium-settings so you will need to invest in a GPU later.

Intel Core i5 3550 ~12000/- (no need for investing in -k marked processor just for its iGP)
GIGABYTE-B75M-D3H ~4500/-
Corsair Vengeance 4GB x2 1600MHz ~3200/-
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB ~3000/- (use the old 1TB as a data-dump drive and the new one as a OS partition, forget about an SSD for now)
Seasonic S12II 520W ~4400/-
Corsair Carbide 400R ~5000/- (get this cabinet over anything else in that budget, nothing touches it)
DeLL ST 2220L ~8200/- OR DeLL IN2030M ~6000/-
APC BR1100VA-IN ~5000/- (a UPS to safeguard your products in a power-cut)
LOGITECH MK200 combo ~700/-

Later purchases --
  • graphics card -- nVidia GTX660 2GB OR AMD HD8*** series equivalent card. ANd AMD cards do not have any driver issues OR over-heating anymore.
  • SSD -- OCZ Vertex4 OR better SSD depending on budget and availability
Hope this helps and wishing all on this thread a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year, Cheers!

Hi guys I think you should buy. . . 3rd generation..... With 4 gb ram. & atleast 4.0 ghz. best of luck

Please punctuate posts, refrain from using SMS shorthand and explain what you meant by 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] generation and at-least 4GHz?

Thanks for the reply, your replies were one of the reasons i decided to post in this forum :)

Now on onto the suggestions:
  • I was concerned about the CPU choice too...what would you say about going for even a i5 3470?
  • I am hoping to run this rig without any major upgrades for the next 3 years. Is the motherboard,"future-proof" enough for that time?
  • Could you explain why you recommended a HDD over an SSD for the OS partition?I usually have only the OS on my OS partition.all softwares and games are installed on separate partitions.wouldn't a 60gb SSD be better?(I want my new PC to be blazing fast :P)

I love how you suggest UPS in all your suggestions.great job!!! :)

Thank you for the kind words.

Your answers --
  • Depending on the price, choose between the Core i5 3470 and 3550 because the former is clocked ~100MHz slower than the latter. Rest all is same.
  • Depends on the definition of 'future-proof', because in Q2 Intel is realising the Haswell family of processors (based on LGA1150 socket) with Z8* / H8* series chipsets. So this motherboard becomes redundant the instant they get released. If you are saying that the motherboard will not need to be changed then yes it can last as long as you maintain it and care for it.
  • Because if you want applications to run fast, you will need to install them on the SSD. Hence it is not a simple task of just being an OS partition, it needs to contain every application that you want to run 'faster'. Also most budget SSD's are not worth the money. Personally I suggest you wait and go for a ~128GB SSD down the line.
Hope this answers your queries.

Wishing all on this thread a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year ahead. Cheers!

Thank you for your valuable inputs :)

Would a 500W psu be sufficient for all the above setup including the graphics card?I was thinking of going in for a couple of cooling fans too.
Also,I havent come across the 2220L monitor before.how is it different from the 2240L ???

Wish everybody here a happy new Year!!!!! :)
