Join date and post count is possible but not desirable. I don't see how that is useful.
It tells me whether a person i'm interacting with is a regular and also an indication as to their credibility

I try to respond to people whose join dates precede mine.

Basically it better to interact with people that have made an investment of their time here ie mods , heavy hitters and regulars.

As it is now i can't tell the difference between yourself and somebody that joined yesterday. Only way is if i remember your handle and that isn't practical.

These two metrics have been readily visible since the day forums began, this would be the first forum i've come across that is entertaining the idea of doing away with it.

Simple as that.

Nothing wrong with that. Its our basic instinct whether offline or on the net.

I have been meaning to write a detailed thread on this topic but cannot find time. Will most likely do it by tomorrow.
nothing wrong. it is just my poor attempt at humour :P

Here is my response to your post which I was going to write anyway but could not find time. You may choose to disagree but give it a shot first and we can discuss this further in the following thread itself.

merging of new posts with old posts is annoying. I posted in the Arma 3 thread now and it got merged with the last post I made on last week monday :(

can the time restriction for that be like 24hrs. so that the posts made after that period wont be merged ?

_

It will.. after 24 hours if the post is merged the thread gets bumped.
my new post today in the arma 3 thread (that got merged) did not come up in the 'new posts' link. are you sure?

also will clicking the thread from the 'new posts' take us directly to the new merged section of the old post or will it be the top of the old post?
incase of latter it is useless for a lengthy post. members will think we read this post already and scroll away to glory mostly not noticing the merge. also if the individual post has to be linked it will be confusing in the present system.

_

It will not come up in your new posts since it is your own post and you have already read it.

I take your point though, so from now on any post which is longer than 400 characters will not get merged. You last post is 500 characters in length.

When we go to "What's new" all the threads get listed. This is fine. But can we also have the section which the thread belongs to ?

Edit: Just checked, it is there but not as a separate column but underneath each post. My bad. Apologies.

Have fixed all the youtube media embeds on the forum which were just showing as text post the migration. If you come across a media embed which is not working then please let me know. :headphone:

There were some 166 alerts when I checked in just now! Was that because something was updated? Because most of them were the older posts.

couple of queries. been trying to find out how to delete Multiple PM at once ? and how do i find which moderators are belongs to which sections ? :S

Why cant I edit my thread in Market? I have tried on numerous occasions.. Even signed out and signed in.. Cleared all cache.. etc. But nothing works..

Is there a way to identify threads one has replied to, in the thread list? Earlier versions of vB used a slightly different icon next to the new post image, I haven't been able to find a similar stuff here.

That's because you have used greasemonkey or something to block out that feature.
