Okay.. Here's the thing.. I'm currently having following specs-
AMD ATI Radeon HD 6670 1GB DDR3
dynet 3GB DDR2 667MHz RAM (2GB+1GB)
intel pentium dual core e2180 @ 2.0GHz
zebronics nvidia 7050/ nforce 610i lga775 socket mobo.. Supports 4GB max. .. 2 ram slots
zebronics 450w psu
i was thinking of upgrading the cpu to a core2quad one.. My mobo doesn't allows overclocking.. So i'm gonna run the cpu at stock speed.. Would it be worth upgrading?

yes if you find a c2q around 3-3.5k otherwise getting a new cpu+mobo+ram is much more recommended.

If gaming is the only intensive process you run on your PC, then no point buying the C2Q without upgrading your GPU first.

So, if i update my gpu to, say, hd7870 or gtx660, for how much tym would c2q last?

the time of dual core is past , you can buy amd fx series processor , which is cheaper than intel quadcore and have good performance. It will keep your system updated to play any game you want.Regarding gpu purchase 7870 it has more overclocking capacity then 660 and will give you better performance. Also whats your monitor resolution ?

Let me be clear... I'm looking forward to buy C2Q for short-term i.e., 4-6 months.. After that.. i'll upgrade whole rig, probably to amd fx6300.. But not now.. Now i'm in need of a quad core, 'cause of my mobo.. Which is a lga775 socket one.. I'm just curious which C2Q would be good and supports my system, which has a 450w psu as well..! My monitor resolution- 1440x900.. I ran max payne 3, Gta 4 at this res. With high settings!

yes you can run GTA4 and max payne 3 on 1440x900 resolution ,depends on which card you buy.

What are the specs of this motherboard. Have you checked manufacturers website for compatibility?
