Motorola has announced its new Moto G smartphone which will offer premium features for a bargain price.

The Moto G features a 4.5 inch HD display with 329ppi and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1.2GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor and 1GB of RAM. It runs vanilla Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and will get updated to Android 4.4 KitKat by January 2014.

The Moto G comes with 5MP rear camera with LED flash, 720p video recording and 1.3MP front facing camera. The internal storage is 8 or 16GB with no expansion slot.

The device is said to be very fast, thanks to software optimizations and it is said to beat the Galaxy S4 in terms of boot up time, making and answering calls, browser launch etc. The camera software is also said to be heavily optimized, which should result in excellent pictures.

It is powered by 2070mAh battery which is said to provide all-day long battery life. Its back cover is removable and will be offered in variety of colors for customization.

The device will be available for just $179 ( 8GB version ) and $199 for the 16GB version. It will be launched today in Brazil and parts of Europe. It will also be launched in India in January 2014 ( hopefully under Rs 13000) . There will be a dual-SIM variant as well, but details are not announced.

Should be a good budget handset at that price point. But wonder what will happen to the a.s.s outside US, where Moto is not available.

Under 15k would be a good price for the 16GB model. I especially love the display specs. Res and ppi and all!! *_* But the "no external memory card slot" would be a pain for me.

15k? I say above below 12k or fail. 149$ = 9,238 INR and customs , shipping will be 13k I am guessing? anyways, Motorola coming back in India and launching a device above 15k would be a fail for them imo.

Where do you come up with 149$...

It's 179$ for 8GB model and 199$ for 16GB model... And btw it's Motorola not micromax or xolo ... Now make your calculations with new price...

Yeah my bad, 179$.

What do you mean by "it's motorola not micromax/xolo" ? Micromax and XOLO has got much reputation in the market. Not saying it's better then LG/Samsung/Apple but still. But motorola? they are coming back to India dude, they have got no goodwill or any reputation for that matter. I say, if they come back thinking they want to make huge profit then they won't be able to take even .1% of the market share. But if they come back thinking, they want to take market share, then best idea for them is to give low price phones.

Agreed. No matter how good a product is, past nightmares could still haunt them.
If they want to be successful like the first Nexus tab, which took the whole world (or India for that matter) by storm, then they should know that pricing is a huge factor.

I don't know what you guys thinking but practically Motorola invented first mobile..
Xolo and micromax just re-brand Chinese mobile and sell them here, they don't do any R&D for their products at all... Motorola releasing mobile for such a low price as right now profit is not their first priority, what they want is market share in middle range mobile..
