Hi, I'm a programmer with own YouTube channels where I teach programming to others. So I do programming and also edit videos etc. I'll soon be getting into working on Machine Learning etc which would require an extensive setup. I prefer to code in Linux but I also develop iOS apps so it's nice to have one system that has all the OS. I've known that it is possible to build a custom setup and install macOS on certain partitions (referred to as Hackintosh). I've had friends do this in the US. But not sure how easy it is to acquire parts in India. Does anyone have any experience building Hackintosh? Any estimates on prices and where to buy those parts from?

its the same as to buying a normal pc. make a list of the parts you want to use if you want it to be from the older build. else follow the template used in form to get a PC build for hackintosh. remember you will need a AMD GPU as NVIDIA GPU is not supported anymore. also you can get a decent laptop if that is your thing, use intel iGUP and work with it.

also you have not mentioned your budget for the same. please take note of this points, update the first post and people from the form will definitely help you out.

also one point is that if possible, wait for amd new gpu lineup to be unvield as the prices of old model will fall and you also get more option form new lineup.

Assuming you are good at Linux there are multiple ways to overcome your dilemma , i think for ML you would be using Linux based system

You buy a beefy system ,

Option 1

install the linux distro where you can program & do ml , for Hackintosh or MAC you can build a vm within your linux distro

Option 2

virtualize the whole system. use it as bare metal ,Install XCP-NG and build VM of any operating system that you want. and access it through other machine

For both the approach hardware could be similar.i could tell you that AMD ryzen processors are even better on linux than on windows.

So i would say that you dont require a hackintosh or mac on different partition ,You do have skills on linux better go with option 1

NVidia gpus are known to be great for ML and have good driver support for linux so you would have good HW for ML. Nvidia also has a NVIDIA Docker for Linux

AMD CPUs and Nvidia GPUs don't support MacOS and it will be a pain to install it on such systems. It will be best of you stick to Intel CPU with integrated graphics or AMD GPU. TonyMacx86 is one of the best places to go for tutorials and buyers guide.

Edit: It seems there is a new boot loader that makes it easy for installing MacOS on AMD CPUs.

yes you missed that form a long shot. opencore is the way to go. only issue is the gpu so waiting for new one and then which is one month away will give more options.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Mac OS X remove 32-bit support? Atleast that's what I remember... Also, my GTX 650 Ti Boost had memory leak issues and the video RAM usage would stay high even on idle. It also caused some visual artifacts if I remember. So, make sure to get a GPU that's well supported.

On second thought, I think there have been recent advancements in virtalization where you can expect near native performance inside a virtual machine. I think the technical term is "PCI Passthrough" where you pass a dedicated video card to your virtual machine. Worth a shot if you're into Linux and it could be a fun experience for you too :)
