I am someone who lives in a village, so don't have access to great plans like others do. Currently paying 1560 for 12Mbps with 200GB FUP and 2Mbps after that. During lockdown, my TV conked off and I thought it will be great as now I can shift from DTH to OTT platforms. However, even with just me and my Mom being 2 people in the house, the 200GB is getting over very soon and this is when we only watch anything in the evening. The next best plan available is for 2600 bucks providing 8Mbps truly unlimited. However, it is much cheaper just to switch back to DTH for me. Also, I have subscriptions to every OTT platform out there but I still download stuff in h265 format due to my low FUP. I also have 2 mobile connections with at least 1.5GB data available daily, but I get worse then 3g speeds at my home while I get 30Mbps just a kilometer away. So even that money is wasted.

The average data consumption per customer stands at 195GB per month as on September, 2020 with an increase by 55% annually from 126GB per month in September, 2019.

Hathway’s broadband users consumed 188GB of data on average per month in FY20, the company revealed in its annual report released on September 3.

This is a 66% YoY increase in data consumption on the ISP’s network compared to the previous year’s 113GB.

MTNL ₹699 6mbps FUP 160GB

They keep upgrading existing plans yearly.
And you get notified (call) about upcoming plan and which plan will no longer available.
You can easily change existing plan over a call.

Till this day there was only one major issue happened on MTNL (server side) where internet was not available for 2 days. Small issues happened rarely causing 1-2 hour internet blackout.

Really varies, I don't keep a track. I've paid 12 months in advance got 4 months free + I got no cap for 16 months 75 MBps FTTH :)

Where do you live? Seems like you are away from the dangerous hustle of a typical city.

Last upgrade was in October 2019. Still waiting for their new plans or atleast give fiber at prices launched by BSNL.
The latter won't happen anytime soon. Govt in no mood to allow MTNL to prosper.

That is correct, However local ISP's offer poor routing compared to Big ISP's who have multiple upstream Tier-1 providers.
Yes it depends on your luck really , if you manage to find a good one that services in your area then its great if you don't find one then I guess you could do something else

From what I understand, the Broadband tariff would be increased once the demand for Wired line broadband is settled.

Out of 24 crore households,
- Jio Fiber is targeting 5 crore wired broadband connections.
- Airtel Fiber is targeting 4 crore broadband connections.

Airtel was the one who started this 3.3 TB FUP trend and Jio/Rest of the ISP's are following them.

Now, Even if you look at the average usage which is reported by ISP which is under 200GB. From the polls conducted on Twitter suggests 95% of them use below 1TB.
On TE it is a different picture (being techy people) only 15% cross 1TB usage.

I think the usage trend would settle when people start buying 4K displays, Usage wise it seems its settled down and I do not see any change until most of the content available is at 4K!

My usage for October crossed 300GB. We were consuming 210GB.

So a 40% increase. To be on safe side I'm consider 500-600GB worth package.

It does not. When one keeps seeding their torrents even after 1:1 ratio is met only the uploads itself may be 3 GB. Not everyone is selfish like myself who stops after 1:1 ratio is met. Besides, I have never crossed even 1 TB.

Those legit people out there who subscribe to Netflix to watch poor quality files at premium price won't understand it. :)
