Finally.
Though not sure if I will buy it so early.
I want to atleast get excited for it and only Metal Gear Solid Remake , Uncharted or Ueda'S Game can make me go for it .

isn’t ps5 at 40k a great deal actually? considering you’ll get at least 5 years support for optimised games that will run at 2-4k 60fps.

The warranty is only for 1 year so there is no sure shot guarantee that it will last 5 years.
I have experience with every Playstation console that has come out and all of them have had similar problems by the 2nd or 3rd year they start showing signs. Now it depends on ones luck also.

aren’t most problems repairable? last console i had was a 360 in 2010 and it ran without a single hiccup for 4 years till i sold it off. i built a rig in 2014 mid to end which was relatively a good build. 4690k, 16gb ram, r9 280x. and it sure costed at least double of ps5 back then. even though i wasn’t new to pc gaming (had a 9600gt rig in 2007, though i was really young back then), to my horror every game needed multiple testings and googling and what not, to get the perfect settings suitable for my hardware. a couple of years later i had to tone down the settings a lot for 60fps on new games. i just want to open the game and play, not fiddle around the settings for an hour or two.

imo unless you can afford to upgrade every 2-3 years and you can afford one among the best cards on sale (forget budget ones), a console is simply the better option. especially now since they support 60fps.

i’m not aware of the current scene but i suppose it’s similar. correct me if i’m wrong. a 3060 ti alone costs 40k now. do not compare the raw power of the hardware, compare how the game runs on both systems. raw power is nothing if game devs don’t optimise properly.

Were you playing pirated copies ? In my experience msot of the issues that I encountered with PC titles were always when running pirated games unless the game launched in a broken state.

It's the same with consoles these days, there will be a pro version 3 years down the line and at the end of 6 years your console will be a potato, just look at CP2077 on base consoles.
Also current gen is hardware limited already, you're not going to get 60fps on 2k-4k on all titles and most people will settle for 1080p60.

My point is that its not like Rs 40k is sure shot guaranteed investment for 5 years . The hardware might fail or likely not keep up to high demanding games .
Repairing console is huge challenge unless you can find a reliable guy to do it. PC GPU comes with 3 year warranty some even 5 years.

I myself have been cheated 2 times when repairing my old Playstation X( first one) and PS2. they just made a quick fix and charged huge amount.

With 360 specially there was so many hardware issues that Microsoft was replacing consoles even after 3-4 years. Lot of my friends got their old 360 replaced. Microsoft did tremendous job by owning upto their fault in their hardware. I would say you may have really got lucky to get a good system to last 4 years continuously.

For Playstation consoles also has lasted for many over 3-4 years. Even my ps3 runs fine(3 years over now) but I would also say that it does show signs like heating up really fast. Very high demanding games like God of War 3 would freeze some times and I did not wanted to push it unnecessarily as I can play GOW3 on ps4 .

As for PC games are much cheaper. Don't forget next gen games are priced at $70 ( Rs 4999 for us in India) .
Pc games see huge drops much faster than console.

So point here is with both hardware and software each has its pros and cons.

Pc- Cheaper Games, Best settings and Hardware much reliable( 3 year warranty on GPU is good deal) but huge one time investment.
Console- Optimized Games, Resale value for games( easier to sell once done) , Decent one time investment but Games costly.

Other than exclusives I prefer PC over consoles anyday.

Yeah most games were pirated copies. But what performance difference does a genuine copy make? I didn't talk about all the issues about installing and errors because those are issues with piracy, not the game itself.

It's been more than 7 years since PS4 launched. there will be a pro version 3 years down the line, but again it's significantly cheaper to get the base at launch and sell it off and get the pro when it launches than to upgrade PCs. Also, there's peace of mind that games will actually run fine without having the need to fiddle around settings.
Also cyberpunk is a really bad example. I've heard it runs bad on good pc builds as well (which are much much more powerful than the PS4/pro).

Look at Driveclub, Last of Us, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima and few other ps4 exclusives. Look how brilliantly they play albeit at 30 fps. A rig bought in 2013-14 at double the expense can't even think of running them unless at potato quality. Oh man, look at the visual appeal of this thing!!

And now the same on PS5 with backwards comp. Mind you this is the same game. Not improved for ps5.

Not only the exclusives run so good old hardware, they are beautiful games (w.r.t gameplay, story, visual appeal).

I agree that until the new consoles arrived, console gaming was/is probably not an option as 30fps kills everything. But now imo for a casual gamer it makes no sense to go for a much more expensive gaming build if on a budget.

Problem with pirated games is they did not get the legit updates post launch that fixed performance issues, that's where the problems arise when playing them.

I was only citing CP2077 as an extreme example, there's significant difference in most titles launched in the past 2-3 years.
Driveclub looks alright but it'a racing game with closed tracks from 2014, it is bound to run alright but if you pause and look past the overdone reflections at the textures on the roadside they're still a blurry mess.

Visual fidelity at 30 fps still looks choppy and is unbearable to play for some people, myself included. I was trying Witcher 3 and Ghost of Tsushima on the PS4 pro just a few weeks ago at my friend's place and I had to put them both down because of the "cinematic" frame rate. I'm still interested in playing Ghost of Tsushima post the PS5 60fps update but Witcher 3, even though it was running at 4k it looked horrible compared to even an entry level gpu like the 1650s. That is going to be the case with most current gen games as well and most people will end up running the game on 1080p60 whenever the option is available.
If you only intend to play on 1080p60 you might as well get a midrange PC.

You're also not taking the high price of consoles now as well as the 70$ you'll have to shell for the exclusives, yes the PC hardware market has been a mess for the last 2 years but we have cheap games at least thanks to Steam.

I think the PS5 disc version would be much better deal as you can share the disc with friends or get used ones. With the digital version you are forced to buy at the premium always. The 10k extra can be made even if you get some 10-15 used games.

A quick and important question, if I get a console imported or take an India-bought unit out of country, would it work properly ? No region lock/issues ?

No Region lock issues with games for sure but blu-ray not sure.

Ps4 would not play out of region blu-ray and so would ps3.
Check yourself on ps5.
