Shipping costs for various items

Anybody knows if ship rocket provides transit insurance and packaging options? Or any other reliable courier that does it?

Up to 5k, for missing/lost packages. It's credited as Shiprocket wallet balance. But nothing for damaged/delayed packages.

how does shiprocket work? I want to buy something and seller wasn't willing to ship first and payment later but he said I can arrange for shiprocket if I want. What exactly do I need to do? I prefer Speedpost but since he didn't want to ship first we could agree on it.

Or can you do it for me and I can send payment to you?

Sign up, use good quality scans (or cropped PDF's) for instant KYC, add a minimum of 200 recharge in their wallet and you can start putting in orders with addresses.

They use a very complex OCR so PDFs of your Aadhaar/PAN Card work best for instant KYC. You'll need to set up your address and phone for courier pick ups and a name to for this business but it doesn't have to be an actual business, there's no verification or GST documents required. You can use it purely for personal purposes, I made my third shiprocket account for Samosa Plot.

Any address that you add as a pickup location, becomes a permanent part of your shiprocket account and cannot be deleted, only disabled. So for pickups, I enter the order as a 'customer return', this way it's just a RTO (return to origin) which is basically a slightly slower and slightly cheaper courier service for packages you want sent to your main address. The best thing is that shiprocket's courier will do the outer packaging and the printing of the shipping label, so the person doesn't need to do much outside of making the package courier worthy. And the pick up person will also inspect the contents if it's a return, so it shouldn't be sealed beforehand.

But you can only arrange these returns back to your own address. So I can do it, but it'll be twice the cost since I'd have to receive it and then send it to you.

Do not use XpressBees for returns through Shiprocket, they took three weeks to bring a motherboard to me. Ecom Express lost a package that Shiprocket compensated for after three months. Delhivery and FedEx have been very reliable, but some for pincodes (Kashmir), you don't have the option of choosing.

you need to do it yourself while booking for the pickup, measure it and weight it correctly then shiprocket will show available courier option and rates based on measurements.

You can err on the side of caution if you don't have one. Shiprocket has flat rates for certain pin codes so for heavy things like power supplies, I just say it's 5kg and enter a volumetric weight that's less than 5kg and the the courier amount is the same as if I had actually weighed and measured it. For other pincodes, you do need to weigh it and round up to the nearest 100g.

@puns mentioned in a comment somewhere recently that DTDC has app that does pickup and delivery, that may be better suited for you if you don't want an entire shiprocket account.

Nice. How did you pack everything?

@rsaeon likes to use shiprocket. He might know.
Also if you sign up using someone's referral link, you and that person get cashback of the same amount. There's also a ₹200 cashback offer now.
So if you recharge for ₹200 you get ₹600 in your wallet and the other person gets ₹200.

However you need atleast ₹100 in your wallet for a shipment so if you have lesser than that you'll have to add again

Oh crap so the address is "tied" to the account? Damn. I thought you could use any address to ship back and forth.
Do they sent OTP to the number registered with the Aadhaar? If no then well and good. If yes then it might be a problem.

Thanks for letting me know. If anyone wants me to use their referral code feel free to send it to me. You have to guide me how to do everything though.

Yes, it's tied to the account, I have someone from OLX tied to my account and they get random marketing emails/calls (I block my shiprocket account managers).

And yes, Instant KYC for Aadhaar is through OTP. But you can also have manual KYC done which takes about a day or two.

Does anyone know if Shiprocket (if not linked to a GST) leads to additional tax liability for all the parcels sent, basis the value declared?

Again, how are they shipping stuff without taking GST details of the shipper/receiver. I have regularly used 'Transport' services available all over India and it's cheap as hell and all one has to do is go to their local transport area. They sell shared space in their trucks for very cheap rates. However, they make a huge scene when I tell them I don't have a personal GST number and I am an end customer with just a GST bill in their name.
So how are Shiprocket or some other service like this bypassing the need of a GST bill for the shipment.

hmm is it too op?

Feel free if anyone want to use it :D
I will use this once I get my kyc sorted.
Also for one item, seller says shiprocket will charge 300rs and speedpost charged <250rs but I ended up paying 250rs extra as seller charged me "inconvenience fees" for waiting at the post office. Apparently the server was down and he had to wait for hours as per his claims. And I wanted to save shipping cost and avoided shiprocket which should've been more convenient. The irony...

I was getting few packages from Amazon shipped so put them all together in the biggest box. MoBo didn't fit in that box so shipped that separately.

Its just a shipping aggregator.. it will work like any other shipping service. You book a pickup, mention the volume, weight and pay and then they ship it.
Either seller or buyer can book. They also offer COD for some extra charge. Your seller must be intending to use COD.

Its same as shipping directly via say indiapost or fedex, so as you don't need gst when shipping directly via fedex. Here shiprocket is just the middle man.
Having a GST number comes in handy if you shipped for a business purpose as it will be easy for you to show and manage shipping expenses and get input tax credit if your turnover is over certain limit.

IMO why your local transporter demanded gst number is probably to ease out the gst filing process as they will need to file B2B and B2C invoices separately, also if you don't pay via cash then they will have to give you an invoice and then they will again demand gst number to ease out gst filing.

I did got a message that someone registered using my referral, but it said i will get cashback when that person recharges, so far i didn't got any cashback. Maybe it will take some time

Has anyone here shipped any chemicals/sanitizers? Can it be classified under "Essentials"? I need IPA-Isopropyl alcohol (99%) for cleaning my electronics but I couldn't find it locally. Amazon doesn't ship it to my location. Sanitizers are 70% btw.
I was wondering if Speedpost or any other reliable courier will be able to ship it to my location.

70% Ethyl Alcohol is included under NLEM (National List of Essential Medicines): https://pharmaceuticals.gov.in/sites/default/files/NLEM.pdf

But if you have a pharmacy nearby, you could just use surgical spirit or methylated spirit. They don't usually sell well so most shops are happy to get rid of them at really low prices. I like to empty them into an empty spray bottle and spray until the circuit board is dripping wet and then some more for really stubborn dust. Most of my stuff is over a decade old so it's too risky for brushing and air blowing because that might just knock off a capacitor or something.

Try your local paint shop guy who has an explosives license.
