CPU/Mobo what AMD or Intel does with Customer return processor

Interested to find what happens when customer returns faulty processor to AMD or Intel. What they do with it. Since processors don't have any part that can be soldered/fixed.

Also, have heard a lot recently that ppl are returning their in warranty working parts (especially GPU and CPU) to receive sealed pack RMA.
 
Read somewhere long time ago, they do binning or recycling before disposing the last bits of scrap!
And for other components which cannot be re-used, you really cannot do anything & its get counted under industrial pollution or e-waste!
 
I don't know specifically about AMD/Intel, but companies generally discourage resale like that specifically for these reasons. It would create a secondary market with incentives to game the system. So recycling/trashing is preferred over reselling at lower price, even if that seems like an apparent loss of a decent component.

People do this to get a fresh unit and seek a higher price after listing it in the FS section! They abuse the system and then cry and crib when companies tighten/change return / RMA processes. When people put themselves in the seller/distributor/manufacture's position, they will stop doing these things, sadly most don't.

Unfortunately this is not going to change unless kids are groomed accordingly. I rarely use returns on Amazon and discourage the family from doing so unless product itself is defective.

For some it becomes a part of their personality and does not change. And not just this, breaking traffic rules, not paying taxes, using contacts to get work done out of turn .. have become acceptable part of culture.

Very true. The 'jhol' and 'jugaad' nature has indeed become part of the culture. Some times and in some situations, in this country, 'jugaad' is needed to survive, but sadly, many people do this on a regular basis.

Agreed, and I wanted to know what happens to this jhol.

Came across situation while looking for processor, guy was offering me Intel i5 5675C and Ryzen 7 - he claimed both are in warranty.

While I checked with Office Vendor - he confirmed that i5 5675C wont be honored by Intel (and his comment did turn out to be true). The guy selling that processor bought it from Amazon (third-party) who sold him refurb/RMA processor with 3 years of warranty but Intel don't give full 3 year warranty for RMA.

He replaced his Ryzen by returning the working processor and getting higher gen processor. Though this is true with Intel & AMD but his method was not correct. Hence I wanted to know the source to avoid these traps moving further.

One might get fortunate once or twice. Dont want to get scammed by failing to prey to these tricks
