always get version from here - https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/releases , or if you have any old, use "./youtube-dl -U" command to update.


here get this combo youtube-dl+all dependencies+ old UI, working flawlessly in windows machine.
Delete the "args.txt" if you want to set your own preferences.

It will auto-update ytdl when new release come. dont update the GUI,

I would refrain from using modded versions of it.

I always find github confusing, under assets, which one to download?

yes it can be confusion at times, if one don't know what exactly they need :)

if you got the mega one, you are all set. i have everything set up under the folder. just unzip the folder and click youtube-dl-gui. that's it. It will auto update ytdl if needed in future.
( im removing the mega link by end of the day)

Update: looks like original youtube-dl facing some issues lately, its not update after june & YT changed something at their end recently, making ytdl not abel to doload in speed, for me it was capped in 32kbps.

better use this binary - https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releases/download/2021.11.10.1/yt-dlp.exe ( rename accordingly). download speeds are back to 100+mbps.

I use Allavsoft, it's very simple and works with almost everything, even reddit
Just have to paste page url in it and it will download the video file
 
Well I was using Open Video Downloader until a while ago, went to download a file after some time and it won't work.

Any suggestions on what to use currently?

I am not a coder or a software person, please something with a GUI.

I use Jdownloader. This is not specifically for video downloads from Youtube but it's a Java based downloader for all kinds of downloads. Once you paste in the Youtube URL it will parse it and show you the options available for download. You can download various resolutions of the video file or if its only the audio you are interested in it even allows you to download only the audio in mp3 and other formats.

Will this work on other sites as well…say some anime sites or tv series/shows

I'm not sure. It will depend on whether they have created a specific hoster/decrypter plugin for the site you are interested in or a generic hoster/decrypter plugin works for your site. They have these plugins for many of the popular sites. You'll have to install and see if it supports the site you are interested in.

I used this briefly for a test and it works. I did not test it elsewhere, only youtube. Thank you. I was curious why there is no MP3 option for audio?

Is downloading YouTube videos or (MP3 from it) is a big thing?

I just google and 2 out of first 3 results work.

I downloaded a couple of MP3 files from YouTube videos yesterday from:

Tubemate works great on mobile as it downloads files sequentially and gives you options to whatever quality or file type you want to download. Sometimes if you pause a download and on the next day you want to resume it then it might starts from the beginning which is the only drawback i found.
