CPU/Mobo [DISCUSSION] AMD 4700S Desktop Kit

Haha, no, not a router — this is a VM host. I can squeeze in twenty 1GB Windows 10 VM's in that 16GB of memory by over provisioning. The multiple network cards are for three different networks — one for corosync, which is needed by proxmox to keep the cluster in sync, one for traffic to the internet and the last one is used as a migration/backup network.

I'm not using the stock cooler, I've swapped it out for a Deepcool tower cooler with @SunnyBoi's adapter from earlier on the thread:

As a VM host, this is a really good system, it hardly ever needs rebooting (all of my first and second gen Ryzen systems need weekly reboots). The only draw back is power consumption — A Ryzen 4500 paired with an A320 board is far more efficient and upgradeable/versatile. If this wasn't such an iconic piece of computing history, I wouldn't be using it.

Hello, I want to change the heatsink on the processor, it’s not quite visible in the photo. Is the processor chip slightly higher than the processor body or are they the same height and form one plane?

Hello, can you add a more detailed photo of the cooler mount, I bought a PC with this kit, now I need to solve something with cooling. Is the processor chip higher than its frame or are they the same height and form one plane?
Which type of radiator is better to choose? Top flow blows on the motherboard, but the hot air is worse on the hand. The tower does not blow air on the motherboard, could there be problems with the VRM

Here's the laser cut adapter mounted on the motherboard:

The processor sits lower than the frame, I'm reusing the original spring loaded screws here.

There's plenty of clearance around the processor area with this adapter @Alucard1729:

I'm using the DeepCool AS500 here, I've mounted its mounting clips directly to the frame and the mounting pressure seem adequate:

It has its own spring loaded screws, which is what DeepCool appears to have standardised on all of their air coolers now.

Close ups of the how I attached the original spring loaded screws with the C clips that came with them:

The Deepcool brackets are mounted with simple M3 screws and whatever nuts I had at the time:

I think those are the knurled nuts that came with the AS500 but any button head M3 screw+nut would work.

Tower works alright for me. if you have another fan in the system (intake or exhaust), that should be enough for VRM cooling. The VRMs are rated for 150C TJMax, the VRM controller is rated for 125C TJMax:

Thanks for the quick response. There is also a question about the processor. I tried to depict it in the picture. The height of the processor board (1) is higher, lower or at the same height as the processor chip (2). Is it possible to use an area larger than the processor area? on a standard cooler there is a protrusion (3) on the contact area for the chip. The flat area of the cooler will not rest against the processor board (1)

The CPU die is a fraction of a millimeter higher than the surrounding area, just like the PS5 chip:

The AS500 I used has a cold plate that covers almost the entire chip but contact was only made with the CPU die:

Do you think this heatsink is enough to keep the processor temperature up to 90°? Now under load it reaches 102°.

Is it dangerous to stain components near the processor chip with mermopaste?

Does it make sense to apply thermal paste along the contour of the processor case (1), adjacent to the base of the heatsink?

Since the CPU die is exposed, thermal paste is only effective on the die, applying extra won't help. Most thermal pastes is also non-conductive so it's okay if extra spills over the sides of the die.

Any cooler would be better than the stock one, even that little one with two heatpipes. However, it uses a clip for mounting so I would be very careful in mounting it since the die is exposed here. I would suggest you find a cooler that doesn't use clips as mounting.

I've noticed a tiny crack on one of the corners of the die because I was careless in how I removed the cooler for these photos (you should loosen each screw a little bit each instead of completely at once).

Maybe instead of replacing the cooler, you can try replacing the fan? You can add a 120mm fan with an adapter:

Or you could take out the fan from the Cooler Master i70 and use that instead:

What is the idle power consumption on this kit?
 
Hello, I have modified the cooling system. Installed a tower radiator. Developed and 3D printed an exclusive motherboard cooling system. Previously, the processor overheated and reduced performance to 2600Mhz, but after modification it operates at the factory frequency of 3500Mhz. The operating temperature of the video card also decreased. The cooler mount is 3D printed from PET-G plastic.

Hello, can you please tell me if it is possible to buy a AMD 4700S Desktop Kit now with international delivery and what is the price?
 
My machine came with Windows 11(C04 BIOS). Now I want to update the BIOS to C0A. However, the update page says it is for Windows 10. Do I need to install Windows 10 first before flashing the BIOS?
