buying domain

How long have you been using mxroute? Could you write a small review?
I have been using it for 2 years, I haven't needed to contact customer care even once so I can't speak for their response times. Their documentation has been good enough for all my technical queries. I had decided not to use Zoho mail as some friends had issues of the mail being delivered as spam often.

Any experience with https://www.milesweb.in. There google reviews seem to be good. Looking for a stable well run company for domains.

I want to transfer a few domains from a US company to an Indian one. Would have gone with Zoho but they doesn't support '.in' TLDs. Looking for one that doesn't create problems when you want to transfer the domain away from them.

I had used google and yahoo before, but both have gotten out of domain registration business. Some other like bigrock, domainsindia and hostingraja don't inspire confidence (TBH, neither does MIlesweb, their website is full of model photos, flashy popups and bait and switch discounts. But I guess that is the norm these days).

I have some domains on big rock too.

Please also suggest me a domain + email option.

I have a .in domain since 2008/09. And I have an email associated to it (myname@mydomain.in). Email is forwarded to my gmail. It is not important but I just want to keep it for feel good factor and once in while Samsung corporate offers. :)

For domain name buying/renewal, I was using Net4 and later moved to godaddy. Email was free with Google workspace till last year.

I paid Rs.825 in Dec'22 to godaddy for one year domain renewal. Email renewal is due in Sep'23 and it is asking Rs.708 for one year. Last year I paid Rs.411 for one year email.

Please suggest me cheapest option for domain+email.
I was also using google workspace but recently bought a domain at namecheap and setup free email from zoho
Much cheaper this way

Noticed something strange while searching for a domain.

I was logged into my company's VPN when trying to do a price check for TLDs on different sites. When I typed a random '.in' name on namecheap.com, it reported that the domain is taken and I will have to make an offer (min $199) to by it from the current owner. Namesilo even wanted a call to help me buy (they stopped doing it after a few tries). Hostgator and hostinger reported that the name is available.

When I logged out of the VPN, namecheap was willing to sell me the domain for Rs 670 and Namesilo's price was $7. I always had the suspicion that the registrars didn't play fair but hadn't seen it in action.

Now I am afraid to even type the domain I really want.

Logged back in to the VPN :)

I used https://mitsu.in/ for my .in and .xyz domain. They're cheap, and work with netbanking.
I used Porkbun for some other domain, but my debit card refused international transactions and that went haywire.

Not great UX, but DNSSEC works with Cloudflare after some initial friction. And aside from payment and setting one of the nameserver to CF, and one to my own, I haven't messed with the Mitsu website once. It never gave me any problems.

Just putting my thoughts out here. I can't really recommend because I'm not well versed in the different registrars, so can't say if Mitsu is good or bad haha

Oh my f-ing god. I take back my words, I'm transferring my domain outta there lol...
Oh goodness, that is really terrible.

I've used mitsu.in in the past, and have had no issues with them. If I still had domains there, I wouldn't transfer them out based on one persons bad experience, because, as you know negative opinions get amplified on the internet, and good experiences go mostly unreported.

Well, even if I say I'm transferring, it'll take a few years since I'll wait till the domain is almost EOL haha

The problem with the person's experience is how Mitsu reacted to it. Towards the end, they even added policies saying your support won't be escalated if they post the mail anywhere etc.

While it's certainly not an issue "right now", if they decide to mess with me the same way, I wouldn't have the resources or time to fight them.

Porkbun costs almost the same anyway. I used to use it before the debit card fiasco happened, maybe I'll just contact my bank and ask them to enable international transactions again haha

Guys, a question for those active in the hosting scene

Long ago when I started playing around with web hosting, a 'whois' would print address/email of the owner. We had to pay money to get a private registration. Last night when I checked mxtoolbox, 'whois' didn't print any contact info for the domains I own. Is that the norm now? Will I gain anything by paying for a private registration?

What about .in domain? Are we allowed private registrations? Will someone be able to get my contact info from the domain name.

The registrars I bought the domain from don't have a private registration option for 'in' TLDs.
