Most common domains have basic whois privacy that is enabled by default while registering it. Most vendors give this for free only a few charge for this. But many do have additional enhanced privacy services that they may charge for.[...] is that the norm now? Will I gain anything by paying for a private registration?
What about .in domain? Are we allowed private registrations? Will someone be able to get my contact info from the domain name.
The registrars I bought the domain from don't have a private registration option for 'in' TLDs.
Some country code domains require the domain owner info to be clearly visible (like India domains .in) so whois privacy is not possible for those and registrar can't provide options for that
If the contact details are not present the Indian domain registrar can disable the domain. So yes your contact details can be known from the domain. This is one of the reasons many don't prefer the .in domain name.
