Regarding LGA 775 motherboards, I guess only G41 motherboards are available. I would suggest you upgrade your PSU too, extreme series are not well known for their reliability. The newer lineup of PSUs from CM look promising. So either that or Corsair.

You can also use a Hiren Boot CD which will allow you to detect internal hdd errors without booting your primary OS which can be time consuming if the hdd has bad sectors or any other errors.

You might have to change your BIOS chip.

Simply cleaning the fan wont do the job. have you cleaned the aluminium/copper fins? There is usually clogged dust in there.

Have a 160GB sata seagate hdd. Still has warranty upto june or july i guess

I had the same problem as OP when I got a new wi-fi router. Had issues like slow loading of web pages, incomplete loeading etc. Changing the MTU size helped. Though torrent speeds were not a problem.

My mistake that I actually purchased Juice Defender from the play store. It was draining more battery surprisingly. I am still on stock rom and I get a decent battery life with 3G data 24/7. I dont play games though.

By my experience, Even hdds can cause boot problems and not give any display. You mentioned that it hangs, could be bad sectors in your hdd. Download Hiren's boot cd utility and check for bad sectors in your hdd. With the same, also check your CPU temps and see that they are not going off...

You should try changing your MTU size to 1350 or 1402.
