i am using a USB mouse and a ps2 keyboard... but the keyboard shows the lights of <NUM><CAPS><SCROLL> on booting and then there is no response from the keyboard... even the optical laser light under the mouse blinks and then shuts off... all this happens when the initial boot 'beep' is heard...

I dont think you should get any message if its a power cable issue. Your monitor should go blank. Usually there are 2 led's on your card. Check to see if they both are glowing. One of the led's is for power supply. It glows when there is some issue or less power.

Basically people just play CS/Dota... nothing else 90% of the time. But since the pc's need to last 3-4 yrs... i was thinking between an x2 or x4 and 5670 or a 5770.

a couple of yrs back i sent them my asus a8ne board for replacement as the southbridge fan stopped working. i regretted doing that. got my board back after 3 months, with sound disabled on one channel and all the pci slots not working. Didnt bother sending it back to them again. who knows...
