I don't think Single Player campaign will stop completely. They will go the COD way of short SP campaign and a multiplayer, which I think is OK. Recent games that are released have already started to show this trend.

I would suggest to keep on trying. Controllers can be really frustrating sometimes. With KB + Mouse, I don't think anybody had to play that level for more than two attempts.
