None taken at all :P The point being that we've already established that the only thing that'll come in the 40-45k bracket is the 8400gs. Considering that most laptops in that range sold in the Indian market carry a x3100, its not a bad idea at all IMO. .

^^ Yup, it does look like that one and it is 15.4" - its the Vostro N series if that helps. The specs are the same with the main difference being that my friend's laptop has the T8100 (2.1ghz i think) but did not come preloaded with any OS.

My friend also got a Vostro recently (Sep if i remember correctly) - new 8xxx series 2.xghz processor, 2gb ram, 250gb hdd, 8400gs - all this for around 42k. No OS though! It was bought through a shop called Landmark in Noida - try finding their details on the web and give them a call.

The back is stainless steel - i'm sure even you know how that holds up to scratches. The front glass on the other hand is a totally different story. In other words scratching has absolutely nothing to do with the strength of the material :) Totally agree with you - in fact i am one of those...
