Hey, I don't know whether either my netbook or desktop motherboard LAN has this auto-MDIX. Is there a possibility of any damage to either of the systems if I connect them with a straight cable, to find out whether they connect or not?

Dunno about the Netgear DGN1000, but you might try researching about DG834G ... works fine for me with XP-SP3, but its quite old now, dunno if its even in production any more. Also, from my experience so far, Netgear is very reluctant to release x64 drivers, so you might keep that in mind.

Silly answer, but I guess you have to go down to the level of electrons and semi-conductors. The wires would least care if you join orange with green, but the semi-conductor would find that and refuse to work.

Just noticed ... something's not right here ... tilde key is <~> and not <`> . So is it <shift>+<`> that one needs to get the symbol? EDIT: Tried it and it works with the <`> key. No need for <shift>+<`>. Btw, on XP I installed it through Control Panel > Fonts > File > Install New Fonts...

Yeah...its a good idea. But the problem is that I work with legal documents which range from 30-100 pages of one .doc document. And, sometimes I have to do a <ctrl>+<a> to select the whole document and apply some formatting changes. So, while macro is a very good idea to cut down on the mouse...
