Check your GPU for any blown capacitors or burns. If there isnt any, then apply Thermal compound as other suggested. But IMO if a graphics card is having such issues, the reasons like drying out of the TP are very rare and mostly they are caused due to HW failure only...

regarding the goflex drive, it comes with a detachable connector for USB 2 and 3. I observed that this connector is somewhat loose and in the course of time after its warranty period, it will require replacement. So i will suggest that the FAGO expansion is better and even low in price.
