Building a Ryzen 5600X Gaming PC for SteamOS (Need GPU & Parts Advice)

I’m building a new PC with a Ryzen 5 5600X. So far I’ve sourced:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X

  • RAM: 16GB 2666mhz (AARVEX)

I’m looking for below Parts:

  • Graphics Card: Considering RTX 3060 or similar

  • Motherboard

  • Case

  • Storage

The system will be running SteamOS / Gaming on Linux.

You’ve also got a psu

bought only from you bhai. CPU & RAM & PSU

And you’re considering an Nvidia GPU ?

What’s the thought process there ?

Yes, whatever is compatible with linux, I dont like Windows

AMD should have better drivers on linux.

Nvidia is fine but has long standing performance issues ( for DX12 games i think) and from what i heard is also not as compatible with all latest desktop stuff on linux (wayland/HDR), probably with some pending bugs here and there. I havent tested it as i use an older distro.

I have Nvidia and play on windows, but for linux i think ill go with AMD today if playing performance intensive games. 9060xt looks decent enough.

That said, Zotac has 5 y warranty which nobody else does.

And for older gen AMD gpus, you dont get official FSR4 support which is not great. FSR3 is shit. FSR4 is good. Although it seems DLSS 4.5 has made some big jumps again, this time in preserving shiny lightning better ( but has high performance cost for 3000 models).

It seems to me that Nvidia keeps things hidden, and when AMD catches up they release something new, so AMD is always catching up with a dwindling market share.

Just some points for you to think about.

If the primary purpose is Gaming on Linux. Stick with AMD for now. Look for Nvidia if you are getting a good deal. Nvidia’s software support is work in progress for the most part.
